I was playing Mario the other day. Lol inspiration has strange ways of working.
Mario fired up the clunky old desktop computer in his shabby old office. He watched it load, and entered his passcode to begin windows 2003. After a quarter-hour of loading and cursing, Mario pulled up internet explorer. He scrolled the little arrow up to the search bar at the top right, and entered the words "Mario Bros."
The first link was a link to a cheesy pixelated internet game. Perfect. The link took Mario directly to a window with the game embedded in it. Cheery music flooded the dark room. Mario grumbled, and turned the volume down.
He clicked "PLAY" and was taken to a character selection. Playing as himself was far to clichéd, Mario thought, so he selected the tiny green figure below him.
"Lets a'go!" a voice with an obviously-fake Italian accent shouted as the music swelled and the game screen lit up with grass, platforms, pipes, and koopas. The little life-tickers and things at the top displayed that the Luigi avatar had only one life left. That's odd, This generally begins with three.
Mario pressed the "up arrow" key on his keyboard as he soared over the koopas. The avatar glided agilely over the platforms, much like the man it was modeled after.
After about two minutes, Mario could see the goal screen right. He edged forwards cautiously, ready to press the button that would lift the avatar into the air and over the goomba. But it was too late, Mario watched as the little pixel-man lifted up a few millimeters and then fell.
"Sorry, Weegi." Mario muttered. The game faded to black, and reverted to the main menu.
Mario could practically here the pixel Luigi calling out to him.
"Why'd you kill me, Mario? Why're you doing this?" Just like the real Luigi had screamed all those years ago.
