Before the break of dawn, the ninja had gotten into a routine of training on the deck of the Destiny's Bounty. However, one of the members had other plans this particular morning...
Kai's eyes shot open and narrowed. He lied still on his bed for a moment, listening cautiously. Jay was snoring loudly as usual, Cole was completely knocked out, and Zane was unconscious, charging batteries in his sleep. It was the perfect moment- the fire ninja got up and left the room silently, scurrying off to his Sensei's personal training room.
The boy shut the door behind him, kneeling in front of a certain drawer and gently pulling the handle, revealing the legendary Green Ninja gi. Changing into it, Kai found it fit like a glove. A wave of excitement rushed inside of him as he began to train in front of the mirror, smirking behind the mask.
"Everyone else did it...so can you."
Indeed, Kai was the only ninja left who hadn't discovered his True Potential. Though it was frustrating as hell, he took it as hope that he still had a chance of being the Green Ninja. Wu had told so many tales, the legend had practically been engraved into his mind.
Making a fist, Kai began to throw a series of punches and kicks in mid-air, his confidence and hopes beginning to soar. He practiced for a long while, not even noticing the sun rising. The usual charisma burned bright within him as time went on in his personal secret training.
"All right, bring the heat! Flame shot!" He chuckled, grinning in front of the mirror. His heart skipped a beat when he suddenly heard a familiar, teasing voice behind him.
"Very nice! Maybe if you changed your catchphrase to 'fire dork', then maybe it'll work." Cole snickered.
Kai bit his tongue and swiftly turned around, finding himself facing the entire team in the doorway. Yikes. He took off the mask in embarrassment.
"How long have you all been watching?"
Zane crossed his arms, staring his teammate down with a certain scorn. "Long enough. Kai, you know only he who is foretold to face Lord Garmadon is destined to be the Green Ninja, and only he should wear the outfit. So Sensei would most likely be very-"
"Mad, I know. I just thought that this would help me realize my True Potential...besides, Sensei isn't here anyways-"
"I'm home!" A voice echoed from the deck of the ship, making the rest of the team suddenly rush out to greet it. Speak of the devil...this was just Kai's luck. The fire ninja desperately changed back into his own gi before joining the others, who were excitedly crowded around Sensei Wu, who'd been absent for quite some time now.
Kai sighed deeply, watching the rest of the group welcome Sensei back at a distance. He rubbed the back of his messy, brown hair with a certain disappointment. As everyone caught Wu up on all their adventures and True Potential discoveries, Kai was the only one who couldn't tell sensei he'd unlocked his badass secret powers too. He knew in the end...he had to prove himself to the others that he was worthy.
Worthy of being the Green Ninja.
Him, and no one else...
