Why, why did he have to like him of all people?
He was all sharp angles and danger, how could he like him?
Chuck was jerked- literally -from his thoughts as his best friend narrowly avoided a light that had fallen in the middle of the street.
Chuck whimpered slightly and adjusted his many seatbelts, looking over at Mike.
"Uh... Mikey, can we go home now?"
"Aw, Chuckles, I thought we were having a guy night. Just the two of us?"
Chuck's cheeks turned a deep red, and he was grateful that they were sitting in the dark so Mike wouldn't notice.
"We've just been racing through town, I don't think that qualifies as a guy night."
"No, we've been going here," he said, lifting his long arm to point forward.
Chuck looked up through his bangs to the building they had stopped in front of. 'JOE'S ARCADE' was written out in bold letters.
"An arcade?" Chuck asked surprisingly.
They both stepped out of the car, walking toward the entrance doors.
"I found it a couple weeks ago and had Dutch fix it up. It probably would have gone faster if you were working on it too but... I wanted it to be a surprise," he stated with a grin.
Chuck smiled widely, and he pulled the shorter teenager into a hug, burying his face in Mike's shoulder.
"Mikey, this is awesome. Thank you, dude."
"No problem, buddy. Let's test them out."
He unlocked the doors and Chuck gasped at the sight of the freshly painted machines. He stroked his hand along the flat surface of an air hockey table. He bent down to one of the machines and tried pressing a button inside. Annnnnd... nothing.
He tried several more times before letting out a quiet whine. "Mike, why didn't you tell me we have to pay? I'm not made of quarters."
Mike laughed loudly behind him, slapping his hand on Chuck's shoulder.
"I haven't turned the power on yet, Chuckles. Give me a minute."
Chuck laughed sheepishly, running his hand through his blonde hair. "I knew that."
Mike walked over to a power box and flipped a few switches. Suddenly, the arcade was illuminated with lights from the machines and music began playing from speakers in the ceiling.
Chuck's eyes widened and he rushed to a machine labeled "DRAGON QUEST" and began to fiddle with the controls.
"Mikey, you have to check some of these out. They're 50 years old, at least, maybe more."
Mike stood beside him and threw an arm around his shoulders. "We can be here all night if you want."
Chuck blushed again and stared at Mike through a curtain of blonde hair.
"B-But what about Kane? What if bots start attacking?"
"Already taken care of, buddy. I want tonight to be about us, no Burners, no Kane, nothing else."
Chuck stood there, unsure of what to say and settled on staring at Mike's big, dumb mouth.
"Chuckles?"
He stepped forward quickly and clumsily shoved his lips against Mike's before he could change his mind.
He stepped back and looked down at the ground, seemingly more interested in his shoes than what Mike had to say or do.
"What was that for?" he whispered.
"I... I like you a lot, Mikey. As more than just friends, you know? I just... I thought maybe you felt the same..." Chuck muttered in reply.
Mike gently took his chin in his hand and brought their lips together again. Chuck's cheeks were on fire by this point, his pupils blown wide.
"M-Mikey?"
"I do."
