Prompt: Alone

centeriThis is the way you left me.
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory,
No happy ending.
This is the way that we love,
Like its forever.
Then live the rest of our life,
But not together.

At the night when he sleeps, he can pretend that she's still there. He pretends that he can smell her perfume although it's long gone from his sheets. He thinks he can feel her hair against his face, but there's nothing there. He imagines he'll wake up with her body curved around his, her hand over his chest, her head over his heart, her leg slung across his leg, anchoring him against her.

Then he wakes up and he's alone.

He goes to work, he goes out with Don, and he sees his mother, visits his brother, and has a life. He laughs, smiles, and lives.

He's happy.

But he's not with her.

He can imagine and pretend, but the truth is he'll never be with Lindsay again.

So, in some ways he'll always be alone.
