Cas had described Purgatory as a potential nuclear reactor. Facing down the one-time junior seraph turned god, Bobby had expected more smouldering fire than this…this cold empty shell demanding their obedience and submission. Just the same as any other crazy bad-guy-cum-monster Bobby and his boys had ever encountered.
Bobby didn't need to look at Dean's face to know how this would be cutting the kid to the quick. Staring into Castiel's insanity was nothing like staring into the sun. More like falling down a deep dark well of extinguished souls.
The Winchester's pain was palpable, and Bobby's aging heart ached.
