A/N: I have sooo many things I should be doing besides writing this right now. But I started this idea years ago and it just recently resurfaced as I was re-watching Naruto.
Defender of Youthful Hearts
Puppies
In all the history of the village Hidden in the Leaves, Inuzuka dogs were forbidden in the classrooms of the Academy. Every generation young Inuzuka would take their puppies with them, only to be sent away to return them to the compound. This was no different for Tsume, nor her oldest daughter Hana. But her son Kiba, insisted that things would be different for him and ran to his first day with Akamaru stashed inside his shirt. Saying nothing Tsume followed close behind.
She stood in the shade of the tree in front of the academy and waited for Kiba to run back out the doors crying. All the sensei shared the same opinion. The academy was for teaching basics, clan abilities should only be taught and practiced at home. Inuzuka dogs were intelligent, but even intelligent puppies were rambunctious puppies. In fact most sensei believed that Inuzuka dogs could cause more havoc in a classroom than a normal dog.
The bell tolled to begin class and any minute Tsume expected to see her son come running from the building tears and protests following him close behind. But to her surprise he never did. She entered the building and followed her boy's sent to a second level classroom. Glancing in through the window she saw the young teacher building momentum in his first official lecture as a sensei. He asked a question of the class and Tsume winced as he was answered by a wild round of barking. That certainly qualified as disruptive by any standards.
Looking through the students she saw that Akamaru had taken his place on Kiba's head and both were wiggling madly with the answer. Any minute she expected the teacher to snap and send them both from the room. But to her surprise the young man actually called on the over excited pair and praised them for the correct answer.
Tsume's smile was huge as she left the building, rushing home to inform the other members of her clan with children that when they registered for the academy, they should demand to be placed in the classroom of Umino, Iruka. She remembered the pitying glances that Kiba had received from others when they had been informed that his sensei was a rookie, barely a new chuunin. Tsume laughed and howled for Kuromaru and the rest of the pack. The Umino boy might be a runt, but in Tsume's eyes right now he was the pick of the litter.
A/N: Another drabble series, I don't know when updates will appear but I plan to write a chapter for each of the rookie nine, then maybe Team Gai and some of the jounin.
