"Because she came here with me."
Katniss couldn't believe it. Peeta just confessed in front of all of Panem that he was in love with her. She didn't know whether to be mad or just stay in shock. All around her were television screens showing Peeta. Peeta. Whoever knew that Peeta loved her. Then it hit her.
"The bread!" Katniss whispered. She had remembered the incident when Peeta gave her the bread. Only somebody with a real heart would give her burnt bread. Anyone else would just shout at her and tell her to scram. But Peeta wasn't like that. Katniss chuckled in defeat.
"How didn't I see it before?" Katniss asked herself. The way he looked at her during the reaping. Him wanting to hold her hand during the parade. Him congratulating her on her session score! That was just plain evidence that proved that Peeta had feelings for her, and she completely ignored them.
"Katniss? Can you hear me?" a voice asked. Katniss looked up to find Peeta, Effie, and Haymitch looking at her like she was crazy.
"Don't worry, Peeta. I can hear you loud and clear." Katniss replied.
"Geez, don't do that kid! You made us think that you've gone deaf!" Haymitch said with a whisky bottle in his hand, as always.
"Come on, Haymitch. Let's take you back upstairs before you end up vomiting on the floor the same way you did at the reaping! Come along, kids! Another big, big day is gonna be ahead of us!" Effie replied with a big grin on her face, as always. Katniss and Peeta were just standing there.
"Okay, what did you take this morning?" Peeta asked, sounding really worried.
"What? What are you talking about it?" Katniss asked.
"Ever since we got here, you've been all quiet and depressed. But a few minutes ago, I saw you smiling to yourself and then EXACTLY seven seconds later, you stop smiling and you look like you're dead!" Peeta explained. Katniss just stood there with a firm face, while still being confused.
"Oh man! It was what I said with Ceasar, wasn't it? You know, my confession. Did I embarrass you? Did I say something wrong?" Peeta asked quickly and worried at the same time. Katniss calmed him down with a kiss on the cheek, which shocked Peeta greatly.
"Don't worry. You said all the right words." Katniss replied with a bright yet small smile on her face. She started walking away to go back upstairs and Peeta followed shortly after, with a hand on his left cheek and a smile on his face.
"Katniss, you're one of a kind."
