I was online, browsing, when I happened upon the wonderful cosplay of keiyosuchan (livejournal) or haraju2girls (deviantart). The first picture I saw, Timeless, was so gorgeous that I had to write something about it.
I told my friend Suri that if Itachi died, I'd never write SasuNaru again, and while I'm in denial (oh yeah, spoiler) staring at his ring, the only one I wear now, I decided to write what could possibly be, one last quickie. Maybe I'll recant in the future.
30 minute drabble, this is the result.
Disclaimer: Nothing.
-Timeless-
Naruto was running, quick, desperate, following the instructions, even though he kept glancing at the torn paper he fisted and crumpled but cherished so. The directions were simple, clear, and precise. He stood there waiting, breathless, anxious, as the water rippled a gentle, calming sound around him that had no affect whatsoever on his nerves.
His eyes watched the lily pads shine brightly under the sun, distorting his impatient visage, twitching in discomfort. The bridge boards creaked under his padding footsteps – he had to believe in this moment; it was real, and he was coming; he said he would.
Naruto believed. His heart throbbed, as if it was being stabbed, but the sensation vibrated with his unbridled emotions; he was alive, pulsing, and overwhelmed with unrest and desire. Please, they echoed loudly in his mind, refusing to accept the reality of something that may not occur.
…Sasuke.
He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, waiting.
And he was not disappointed.
''Sasuke…''
''Naruto.''
Naruto grinned; he wanted to say something, anything, but no words were necessary.
''It's over.'' Sasuke said, a simple statement that resonated in the silence of their meeting.
''He's dead?''
''I killed him.''
And yet, there was no relief. But the moment would have to suffice. They would remember it for as long as memory served their beck and call.
Sasuke was still not going to return; he could not, maybe never, but not yet. Naruto knew this and yet his hand still slowly reached over and took Sasuke's. Their fingers laced as they once did before, until they were firmly clasped, joined for the brief moment forever allowed them.
They continued to look straight ahead, towards their futures, towards their time apart but not towards each other.
-EndE-
I guess the title is appropriate, although not personally my own, because this moment, I doubt, would ever happen within ''Naruto'' time. (Even though we all want it too, maybe, if we're lucky) But until then, we have wonderful cosplay to keep us highly entertained.
