Dorothy looked up into the stars above. She wondered when she would reach the Emerald City. She really wanted to be at her Aunt Em's side. She was possibly dying from a broken heart. Behind her, the Cowardly Lion was whimpering in his sleep. Then he began to talk.

"Help me! Help me! Please!"

"Lion, wake up," whispered Dorothy so not to wake the Scarecrow and the Tin Man.

The Lion opened his eyes and burst into tears. Dorothy hugged him tight. "There, there, you were just having a bad dream."

"I did," he sobbed. "I dreamed I was wearing the Ruby Slippers and the Wicked Witch made a curse to make a giant kalidah chase after me."

"It's okay," said Dorothy. "You're awake. The Witch wouldn't dare to cross a wild beast like you. Try thinking about good things. Think about rainbows, Glinda, Emerald City."

The Lion closed his eyes and smiled. "I'm thinking."

"How's about I sing you a song to help you sleep?"

"Could you please?" asked the Lion as he lied down.

Dorothy began:

Day has gone to rest,

The sun is in the West,

And now the purple shadows fall.

First little star of night,

Softly to you I call :

Evening star,

Sentimental Evening star...

Tell me do you see….

Where my love can be?

Evening star,

You know what my feelings are...

When the night comes on...

And my love is gone.

Through the blue I breathe a sigh,

A pray'r to my life, my love, somewhere...

Send your beam,

From the land where angels dream.

Is he near or far?

Tell me, Evening Star.

The Lion yawned and fell asleep. Dorothy leaned forward and kissed him goodnight.
