"Class, today we are going to be starting a new project. Each of you will be partnered up with a student from and together you will work on a book report that will be presented to the class two weeks from now." Said Mrs. Champion, the seventh grade English teacher at Constance. "You will be given your partner at the end of the period. Right now, we will discuss the requirements for the book report." As Mrs. Champion continued to talk, Blair inwardly groaned. She hated projects that required partners. Working alone was so much more efficient. Now she would be paired with a lazy and stupid boy, who would probably make her do most of the work herself. Not that she minded; she would actually prefer to do the entire project by herself. However, she did not want to be used to get someone a good grade. She was better than that. Either she and her partner would do the same amount of work, or he could get an F.

Chuck Bass sat in class with a smirking as the teacher announced to them their assignment: a partner book report. He loved those. It required absolutely no effort on his part He could always blackmail or bribe the person into doing all the work for him Hopefully it would be someone smart. He needed to get his father off his back about getting better grades. Bart was always disappointed in him, and Chuck had learned a while ago that it was pointless to try to make him happy. The problem with smart people though, was that they tended to be annoying know it all's. He needed his partner to be tolerable since they had to present the project together. Chuck needed to at least know what they were doing. He hoped he didn't get partnered up with some needy bookworm who only cared about her grades.

"Alright, please start packing up; we are going to meet the boys in the courtyard." said Mrs. Champion. Blair slid her notebook into her bag and started walking out. She saw the boys all sitting down on the stone benches. She found a bench that was slightly hidden and sat down alone. The teachers stood in front of them with clipboards that presumably had their pairings written down on them. They started calling out names "Nate Archibald and Serena Van der Woodsen, Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf,…" Blair's head snapped up in panic when she heard her partner's name. Of all the idiotic jerks in the school, she had to get the King of them all. Wonderful. With a sigh she walked up and over to him. He looked just as sickened as she was. "Great" she heard him mumble sarcastically. She turned to glare at him but didn't say anything. As everyone around them started chattering excitedly, they sat in silence glaring at each other. After five minutes of glaring, the bell rang and she stood up, quickly walking away to her next class. For the rest of the day, they were both distracted by their horrible fate, of course Chuck never really did pay attention, but Blair did.
