I don't own Kingdom Hearts.

Riku sighed. He was watching his two best friends laugh with each other. The silver haired boy wished he could join them, but he knew he was set apart from their banter.

Darkness called to him.

He overheard Kairi. "Come on! Let's leave without Riku! It would be just the two of us!" Riku frowned at the red haired girl, but she couldn't see.

"What are you talking about Kairi? We can't leave Riku! He's our best friend." Riku smiled at Sora's back. He was always too innocent for his own good.

"You're right!" The red haired girl giggled. "I was just kidding!"

Riku knew better than Sora that the girl was not joking. She had been serious in leaving him out, but Sora would never guess the real reason.

Kairi was in love with Sora.

Riku accepted the fact that she was going to be with his best friend years from now. Kairi would follow Sora to the end of the world and back. The silver haired boy still couldn't help but wish that he could be with Kairi instead.

"Hey! What are you guys talking about?" The two jumped at the sound of Riku's voice.

Kairi laughed. "Oh! We weren't talking about anything important."

"I can't wait until we leave tomorrow!"

Riku would have seen Sora's smile, but the silver haired boy was looking towards the ocean. Kairi added. "Do you really think that there are other worlds out there?"

The silver haired boy looked towards the red haired girl. "Yes and it's all thanks to you that I'm not going to sit here and waste my life. I want an adventure!"

Riku noticed both squirm. The silver haired boy knew that Sora didn't even realize that he was uncomfortable because of Riku basically telling Kairi how he feels, but Riku did know that she understood what he said and didn't want to admit it.

Kairi smiled towards Sora. "Should we go back now?"

Riku looked towards the ocean again as his best friend gave the answer. "Yeah, it's probably best."

They headed out with her in the lead and them following. Riku sighed again.

"Are you alright?" Sora asked.

"Yeah… I'm just thinking."

Kairi was already in her boat. "Come on, you guys!"

Riku knew that they wouldn't be leaving with each other in the morning. He also knew that he would be taking Kairi whether any of them liked it or not.

The silver haired boy had known for a long time that his love for Kairi was completely one sided, but that situation was not going to bother him. Riku wasn't going to go so far as to make Kairi love him… No, he just wanted some time alone with her to let the red haired girl see that he could be the one for her too.

Riku didn't know that taking Kairi away from Sora would separate her soul from her body, but Sora wasn't going to be the one to take care of her in the future. Riku was sure of it.

Still, he should have known it would not have changed anything. Kairi always belonged to Sora and Sora always belonged to Kairi.

In the end, Riku was ready to find his own true love.

Yes, there will be a sequel.
