Hours
Disclaimer: I do not own Sweeney Todd or the associated characters.
He waited for her.
It had been hours that he sat, waiting to see her. Things raced through his mind, a mile a minute. Inside, he was panicking, outside, he looked too emotionally stable and calm to be okay.
He thought the worst, sadly hanging his head down, just once, to express how he felt. But just for a second; he was Sweeney Todd. Emotions did not plague him. Pure revenge drove him, and now the judge was dead... He would have withered away by now, but Eleanor kept him alive. Bloody woman.
Why he was concerned, he knew not. She was his landlady, his caretaker, and literally his. No one else could have her.
Not that they would. She was married. In fact, she was married to him, he realized, blinking his eyes slowly. His wife...
Nellie Lovett... Todd? He didn't like the idea of her being Mrs. Todd. Did he? Was he convincing himself he didn't?
It happened so fast, he couldn't tell what was happening...
But when a doctor emerged from her room, a sullen look on his face.
"Sir, Mr. Todd. I have bad news... Your wife- she didn't make it. I'm sorry"
"What? That's... You're lying." Sweeney tried to tell himself he didn't care, but he did.
"I didn't hear any crying, either. Don't tell me-"
"She lost the baby… I apologize, my deepest sorrows..."
Sweeney was burning with anger. He was stressing. So instead, he ran into her room and saw both Nellie and the baby not moving. Not even breathing... He turned to the doctor.
"It's your fault! You didn't try hard enough!"
In all reality, it was no one's fault. Nellie had been very ill for some time.
He had been waiting for hours. Waiting for her.
Now she was gone.
