Castaway Souls
Ari Potter stared lethargically out the window from the library in Grimmauld Place. The sky outside was cloudy, and the sun reflected strangely off her pallid features and vivid green eyes as her best friend approached.
"I've been reading, Ari," Hermione said softly, "and the soul, well, it can't be forcibly changed."
"What?" asked the girl, still dull and tired in her confusion.
"The soul, Ari. What you're worried so much about."
"I'm not worried about souls, Hermione. I spent a year of my life worried about nothing but souls – or soul fragments, at least. We're done with that, remember?"
"Yes, Ari," she sighed, "but you're still worried that your soul was damaged by the horcrux."
Ari refused to look at her.
"The issue is not going to go away just because you ignore it, Ari."
"That's what I'm afraid of."

Okay, very short first chapter. I'm really just starting to feel out this story right now. I have a couple more chapters in the works at the moment, figuring out where I want to take this thing. I should get at least one more up this weekend, and it will be significantly longer than this one.
The basic premise of the story is that, similar to the way that Ron became less angry without the horcrux on him, Harry (or, in this story, Ari), will change a lot after the horcrux is removed – mostly in positive ways. But she will also be left feeling very, very lonely. She will end up in the Naruto world, post-final-battle (AU), and will find that she has a lot in common with Konoha's number 1 unpredictable ninja.
I have no beta at the moment, but welcome any suggestions, comments, ideas, etc. in reviews.
Disclaimer for this and all chapters: Harry Potter, Naruto, and their respective universes do not belong to me.
