Waiting For Hope

He was wrong. He knew that nobody was infallible, and that he could make mistakes. But never did he imagine this one would have such an impact on the galaxy. The spirit of Qui-Gon Jinn watched as his former Padawan dealt with the worst sort of pain imaginable. And he knew he was responsible.

Anakin was the supposed Chosen One, the one who was meant to bring balance to the Force. And now Anakin had become a Sith Lord, and all the Jedi were ruthlessly murdered by Lord Sidious' new Empire. A nightmare so despicable had now become reality. Anakin turned on everyone who cared for him, and the consequences of that action were affecting the entire galaxy.

Qui-Gon himself championed the young ex slave from Tatooine, because he saw greatness in the boy. Anakin was destined for great things, and he would do anything to make sure that this boy was aided in every way possible. That was why he arranged for the boy's freedom and that was why he gave Obi-Wan the final command to train the boy. And so Qui-Gon knew it was entirely his fault.

During the great battle on Mustafar Qui-Gon was hoping in some miniscule way that Anakin would see the error of his ways, and give up. But the new Sith Lord wouldn't go quietly, and fought ferociously against a man who cared dearly for him. Qui-Gon knew that Obi-Wan's was heartbroken because of Anakin's decision.

Qui-Gon knew now without any doubts that Obi-Wan was always the right choice to train Anakin. Qui-Gon knew he was a bit of a maverick and tended to act impulsively. Obi-Wan was steadier, calmer and had a gentle wisdom that was exactly what was needed with a headstrong boy such as Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan had proved that he could be an incredible mentor and Qui-Gon was extremely proud of him.

Obi-Wan blamed himself for what happened to the Jedi, but it was Anakin's own choices that led him on that path, and Qui-Gon hoped he would come to see it. Nothing Obi-Wan did could've changed what happened. For too long the Jedi were unaware of Sidious' close proximity to the Chosen One and that friendship ended up destroying them.

Qui-Gon watched as C-3PO piloted the small craft towards the small asteroid of Polis Massa. Things were grave indeed, not just for the galaxy, but for Padme Amidala and the children she carried in her womb. Qui-Gon could see the children through the Force, and it didn't surprise him that they were both Force sensitive. An infant boy and girl, and Qui-Gon knew that great destiny lay in the path for both children.

That is if Padme survived her ordeal long enough to give birth to her babies. Anakin newly named Darth Vader nearly strangled her to death when she expressed her sorrow over his change. Now Qui-Gon could feel her life Force draining away. Though Anakin never physically hurt Padme seriously, he dealt her one emotional blow she could not handle.

The galaxy was changing in ways Qui-Gon couldn't comprehend, but he knew he would be always there watching. He knew for one that Anakin was still alive, and was found by Lord Sidious. Anakin might be an evil Sith Lord, but as long as he was alive there was always hope, Qui-Gon mused. Jedi were now almost wiped from existence, but perhaps Anakin could still fulfill the prophecy. Or maybe his unborn children would, Qui-Gon couldn't know for sure.

One thing he did know, and that was the Empire would not last forever, and he would be watching when it met its end.
