***Luke's pov***
I look up at Dale Davenport, our school's main bully. Everyone, even the lunch ladies, are scared of him. "To get to my brother, you're going to have to go through me first." I say.
"What about, instead of him, I get just you." he says.
"Fine." I say, boldly.
I give Ravi the signal to leave the school. To get as far away from here as possible. We established this when he started getting bullied in case he ever was going to get beat up and I stood in between them. I realize now that it was very good that we came up with this.
I manage to get into my room without being noticed. There's a mirror at one of the walls so I can see how bad I really got hurt before anyone else does.
It really isn't that bad, only a black eye and some bruises along my body. Hopefully no one else will notice.
There's a knock at the door. "Luke, are you in there?" Ravi's voice says.
"Yeah, Ravi, what do you want?" I ask.
He comes in and our eyes meet. "You shouldn't have done that, Luke! See what you've done to yourself?" he says.
"Ravi. It would've been worse if it was you. Okay?" I say.
He nods and says, "But what excuse are you going to give when Jessie sees you?"
"I don't know. I'll come up with something." I say. "Do you think she'll notice?"
"Yeah." Ravi says.
"Ugh. Sometimes I just wish she didn't notice as many things." I say.
***Jessie's pov***
Luke and Ravi walk down the stairs. It looks like there's something wrong with Luke, as he's looking at the floor instead of ahead of him.
"Luke! What's wrong with you?" I ask.
"Nothing. Just got into an argument." he says, looking up for a second. In that second, I notice that he has a black eye.
"Not just in an argument. In a fight too." I say.
"It's fine. Just stood up for Ravi." Luke says.
Ravi did say that something unusual did happen at school but he didn't say what exactly. At least now, I know what it was.
"Against who?" I ask.
"Dale Davenport." Luke says.
"Oh. Him." I say. "Well, did you hit him back?"
"Yeah." he says.
"Good. Now, you better try to hide that from everyone else." I say. Luke smiles.
