Written for 'The Star Challenge' for the star Acrux. I used the prompt 'write about the Cruciatus Curse'.

THE INSANE

The first time Bellatrix Black used the Cruciatus Curse was merely just for curiousity. Of course, she knew it was illegal, but what did she care? She was a Black. Somehow this put her above the law.

She had been out with her fiancé, Rodolphus in an empty field. They were sent their by their parents to 'get to know each other' before their arranged marriage was to take place. The two of them had just recently finished Hogwarts.

It was a sunny day, and Bellatrix was unhappy having to spend the day sitting with Rodolphus in the middle of a field. She'd rather be at home, quite frankly.

Bellatrix agreed with pretty much everything her family believed in, but she had to admit that this match just wasn't one she was too fond of. She'd always imagined them arranging a marriage with someone she actually liked. She wasn't complaining, though. Who was she to complain?

"What is your fondest memory?" Rodolphus asked her. She sighed. Must he be so terribly boring?

"I can't remember," she replied, not exactly putting any effort into her answer. Before Rodolphus could say anything else, they were interrupted by footsteps behind them.

Bellatrix turned around to see a young couple, looking disgustingly happy and holding some sort of Muggle technology.

"I'm sorry," the girl said. "I was wondering if you could take a picture of us? It's our anniversary today!" She giggled.

Bellatrix stood up, feeling furious. How dare Muggle scum like this couple approach her! The thought suddenly occurred to her to test out the curse.

She fingered the wand in her pocket and pulled it out, feeling quite curious. To her fiancés utter surprise, she pointed her wand at the couple and said very clearly, "crucio!"

The two Muggles fell to the grass screaming louder than Bellatrix would have imagined. She could see them writhing in pain under her spell.

Rodolphus was shouting at her to stop and that she would be in huge trouble, but Bellatrix couldn't care less.

This was thrilling!

The sight of the Muggles' pained faces, sent a wave of laughter through her. Just what they deserve, filthy scum, she thought.

She was enjoying this far too much to stop. It wasn't until Rodolphus snatched her wand off her that she stopped laughing.

"Why'd you do that for?" she whined.

"What were you thinking!"

The two Muggles were lying on the floor unconscious. Must have passed out.

"I was having fun!" Bellatrix said. Rodolphus shook his head incredulously.

"You're insane!" he yelled.

And maybe she was.
