Fruitcake...?

"What's a fruitcake?"

Daniel looked over at where Vala sat on the couch in his office while he scowled at his tomes searching for some reference or another.

"What?"

"That day on the Prometheus, when I beat you up-"

"We've gone over this you didn't beat me up. I won the fight and you ended up in a cell." Daniel ground his teeth together annoyed that they were talking about this again.

Rolling her eyes, Vala nodded as she moved closer to sit down on the desk right in front of him. "I'm sure you believe that Daniel, if it helps you sleep at night."

Daniel opened his mouth to argue but Vala stuffed the doughnut she'd been eating in it. "On the Prometheus, after you kissed me-"

Swallowing the food in his mouth, Daniel protested, "I didn't kiss you, Vala, you kissed me! I've told you we're not talking about this again."

Vala's fingers drummed a beat on the desk. "When we broke the kiss you called me a fruitcake. Just what is a fruitcake?"

Daniel closed his eyes and counted to ten in three different languages before answering. "Traditionally it's given out a Christmas time. It first appeared in writings-"

Getting to her feet, Vala pulled Daniel's chair back from the desk and plunked herself onto his lap, wrapping herself around him. "Darling, I need a recipe not a lecture. So what is in it?"

"It's cake with candied fruit and, most people don't like it so it stays around. They can't seem to get rid of it because no one else wants it."

Her fingers walked around her chest. "So why am I a fruitcake, hmm?"

Daniel's Adam's apple bobbed. "Well ah-" He leaned back trying to put some distance between them.

Her finger slid just beneath the neck of his t-shirt. "Are you saying that you don't know?"

"I'm not saying that you just-"

"Just what?"

Daniel pushed her back to gain some distance from her. "All right a nut is slang for a crazy person and there are nuts in fruitcakes. So along the way nutty as a fruitcake began to be used and you make me crazy." Daniel sighed running his hands up and down her arms. "One minute your this vamp and the next your eyes go all teary and you look like a little girl lost. I just don't know what to do with you."

Vala smiled tracing his lips with her finger. "I don't know what to do with you either because you do the same thing to me." She leaned back studying his face. "Even before I was chosen by Qetesh I built walls around myself and my heart. But you, my Daniel, just destroyed them quicker than I could build them back up so I stopped trying. I'd like to think we're two lost souls who finally found each other." Daniel didn't say a word but Vala didn't look away. "Say something Daniel!"

"I love you."

Vala reeled back as though she'd been struck, but Daniel didn't let her run, he'd said the words and she would have to listen to them. "I love you, Vala Mal Doran and I'd like to spend the rest of my life with you. We've both been through hell and back and I now it's time for the two of us to be happy, so what do you say, will you be my fruitcake? After all can't seem to get rid of you and you don't seem to want anyone else."

She blinked back the tears. "Daniel... I'd like nothing better after all, I love you, too." Then she kissed him.

Breaking away Daniel leaned his forehead against hers. "How about a Christmas Eve wedding."

"I'd like that, after all that means I can wear red." Vala played with the hair on Daniel's neck and he knew that he's life would never be boring or calm, but that was the way he liked it.
