I do not and will not ever own anything or anyone that belongs to J.K. Rowling, but do infact own Linnet, Gabriel, and any other character that was never mentioned in said famous author's books.

It was cold outside. The stars shown brightly in the nearly cloudless sky as the window fogged up with each breath. Linnet blew on the pane of glass and watched in fascination as the fog obscured her view of the outside world. Her red hair that was usually put up in a tight ponytail was loose and fell freely down her back a little past her shoulder blades.

Linnet was spending this night like she had spent many other nights where sleep eluded her grasp. No, she would not get any sleep this night, so she sat on the window seat that graced the Hufflepuff common room watching the world pass by from the other side of the glass. That was what her life seemed to her just then, it consisted of her outside looking in, never truly apart of it, but always near. Actually, that is what every Hufflepuff life was.

All Hufflepuff's dream of one day being on the inside, no longer an outcast. They may be separated from the others but they were not alone, they had each other and that is all that really matters. To prove that fact, Linnet heard feet shuffling down the stairs towards her, but she did not worry to conceal herself in her blanket that was draped loosely around her waste, she could recognize that exact walking shuffle in her sleep. Her younger foster brother, Gabriel, was slowly making his way towards the common room kitchen that stood next to where Linnet was perched. He was three years younger then her, in his fourth year at Hogwarts, and he was already taller then her.

Linnet greeted Gabriel and the younger boy mumbled sleepily in reply. He was getting his customary mid-night snack, the kind that always got him in trouble with Paul. Paul was there foster father, the kind that you don't speak of to anyone under punishment of death. As Gabriel satisfied his never-ending pit of a stomach, Linnet held her breath in anticipation. She was waiting to catch a glimpse of the magnificent and horrible creature that always came out during a full moon. She didn't have to wait for long.

As Gabriel was stuffing his face with something that could have resembled a sandwich that was crossed with a burger and a hotdog and salad and made people cringe in disgust as he gobbled it down, a white streak made its way across the upon fields of campus and into the forbidden forest. The creature fascinated her as well a scared her senseless. Even though Linnet was a Hufflepuff and not the sharpest tool in the shed, she wasn't stupid either and could recognize a were-wolf when she saw one.

She calculated from the fact that the were-wolf came from inside the castle and later returned to said structure, it was either a student or a staff member, but that was as far as her curiosity took her. Linnet did not see the reason to pry any further and was contented to just watch the glorious and deadly creature make its way to the tree line and if she was feeling up to it, watch it return.

The were-wolf dissapeared as it made its way into the forest just as Gabriel got up and went back to bed. Tonight, it seems, she will not watch his return as she had packing to do, Christmas vacation was only four days away and both Linnet and Gabriel were dreading every moment of it.
