Hey, I decided to do a story where someone from out world gets stuck in the world of Ranger's Apprentice. I'll try not to GodMod my character.

I hope you enjoy this chapter! And I'd be willing to write a story with someone else, just PM me if you're interested!

The summer sun shone bright outside, making the world warm and animals sweat. A large weeping willow sat on the yard of a very large estate. Fancy, metal gates stood at the end of the long road, leading to the main highway.

Under the shade of the willow, a girl sat against the trunk, hiding from her care takers.

Her head was tilted downward as she read the pages in front of her. Her brunette hair fell off of her shoulder and into her line of sight. She ignored it and kept reading. Her attire was odd, a shirt and pants with molten colored hood.

Upon hearing her name called, she looked up fearfully. Then she put the book in a brown bag at her shoulder. Then turning around, she hauled herself onto the tree, climbing carefully into the branches where she couldn't be found.

Once settled in her perch, the girl smiled and pulled out her book again and began to read…

Will racked his brain. He wasn't good at lessons and languages, as Alyss was. He couldn't form neat, perfect letters, the way George did. Nor did he have Jenny's interest in cooking.

And he certainly didn't have Horace's muscles and strength.

All of a sudden, the wind picked up in a huge gust of wind. The girl's hair whipped into her face, preventing her from being able to read her book. She looked up from the book in frustration. All she wanted was to read her book in peace!

Sighing, she closed the book and prepared to climb down so she could get inside. Before she could get down, her vision darkened. She stumbled and grabbed onto the tree. Then her vision went black and she fell to the earth with a thump.

The care taker on the grounds heard the thump. "Tristan!" the woman shouted, running toward the noise. When she reached the willow tree, the girl was gone, so was her bag. The only thing that signaled that she had been there moments ago was a hair clip and a book mark.

Tristan's POV

I awoke to a pounding head and lying on rough ground. "Can I have a pain killer?" I asked.

That's when I realized no one was there. Groaning to myself, I put my hands under my chest and pushed myself into a sitting position. I looked around to get my bearings.

Trees surrounded me and sunlight shown in between the branches, dappling the ground and my cloak. I put my hand against the tree behind me and got shakily to my feet. Suddenly, I heard voices and the trotting sound of horse feet.

I ran toward the noise, boots smacking the dirt with a soft, thud. As I neared the sound, I slowed my pace. A road sat in front of me and I saw a man and woman on a wooden carriage of some kind and brown horses hauling them. Stepping out of the shadows, I said, "Hello."

The couple halted the carriage and stared. "A-a ranger," the woman said fearfully.

"Huh?" I said, tilting my head to the side.

"Honey, that can't be a ranger. There isn't any girl Rangers from what I've heard of."

I shook my head, I was totally confused. "Um, so…could you direct me to the nearest establishment? I think I'm lost, and I'd really like to get my bearings."

"Sure, just a few miles up the road and take the left path, you'll reach Redmont Fief."

Then they started off again. I stared at them as I tried to comprehend what they had just said.

Curious, I dug into my bag and pulled out my Ranger's Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan and flipped through the pages. I stopped when I reached a page and read a couple lines…

It was typical of Alyss, Will thought. He knew that the tall, graceful girl had already been promised a place as an apprentice by Lady Pauline, head of Castle Redmont's Diplomatic Service.

I froze and the book slipped from my shaking hands.

Oh God.

I was in the Ranger's Apprentice book.

My knees buckled and I fell to the dirt, staring straight ahead. After a few minutes, I came to realize that sitting around doing nothing was pointless and I stood up. Then after grabbing my book, I got into the tree line and maneuvered my way carefully to Redmont's castle in the shadows.

I arrived on the outskirts of the village and looked up at the castle. It was just as I imagined it, beautiful.

Walking into town, I felt, more then saw that people were staring at me. I ignored it and treaded lightly to the front gate.

I stopped and gazed up at the large gate with the guards out front. I instinctively knew I could just waltz up and ask to go in, I had no right. I was a stranger from a different time frame, even more, a different world. I was also a girl in a Ranger's cloak and yet I had no mentor or oakleaf necklace to tell the men to let me in without question.

I didn't know what to do. I was in a strange place with people from my favorite book. I certainly couldn't go up to one of them and tell them that they were from a book, which would mess with the story line too much. It was already tainted enough with me being here.

All of a sudden, I heard the sound of two horses trotting up behind me. My muscles tensed and I turned to see who it was.

I froze when I saw the faces: One a young man about my age with brown hair and eyes wearing a gray and green cloak similar to mine, and riding atop a shaggy grayish pony. The other was a grim face man with a beard and short chopped hair with a cloak and atop a larger horse.

Each one had a bow, and I instantly knew that even if this wasn't a book, I wouldn't stand a chance, for I had no weapon on my person except the dagger in my bag. I knew I wouldn't have time to grab it before one of them shot me.

The younger one looked over the older one. "What should we do, Halt?"

Will's POV

I glanced over at my mentor as he thought. Then I looked back at the person in front of us. I couldn't tell whether it was a girl or a guy by the way he/she positioned themselves and the molten green-gray cloak they wore.

A brown satchel sat on the person's right hip and the strap stretched over to the left shoulder.

"Well, not many people wear those cloaks. And I don't recognize you. So you must be a bandit or worse…" Halt's voice darkened and I watched the person take a step back.

He/she opened their mouth before shutting it. Then they drooped their head.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you the truth. And even if I do, it may mess with everything you know."

I stared at the person, confused. They seemed to be speaking in riddles.

"Could you at least show us your face?"

The person hesitated then in response, muttered, "Yes Ranger Halt."

I glanced over at Halt and saw him blink in shock. But it was quickly diminished.

Then I watched as black gloved hands emerged from the cloak and made their way to the hood. Then the person flicked it off and brown hair tumbled down from the confined space and fell across the person's shoulders. Then they lifted their head and I couldn't hold back my gasp.

It was a girl! Bright blue eyes watched us carefully and I noted that rather looking at us in fear, she looked at us with both awe and wariness. Her eyes darted to the bows that where slung over our backs.

A glance at Halt and I noticed he was observing her as well.

"You're not afraid?"

She blinked. "Why should I? I know that Ranger's are held in high esteem and are misunderstood by simple folk, and feared. I've never met a Ranger face to face, but I've heard a lot about you."

Halt nodded slowly and gestured for them to dismount. I did and then patted Tug on the head. He nudged my shoulder gently.

The girl smiled as she watched then it quickly faded.

"You haven't spoken," she said to me.

Halt snapped his head at her but she ignored it like she would a fly. "I have no need to."

She nodded slowly. "I have a hard time believing you aren't at least curious. In fact, I bet you both are. Like who am I? Where did I come from? Where and how did I get this cloak? But to tell you that, would mess with things I'm not really accustomed to."

Halt took a step toward her and she took a step back as well and looked him in the eye. "You don't scare me Halt. I think it's best if you let me go in peace. Any more confrontation and it could lead to disaster."

"What kind of disaster?" I asked.

She glanced at me, but I noticed she kept vigilant about Halt.

"Earth shattering," was her reply.

Halt tried again to get closer, taking several steps toward her. She skittered away, still facing us and then narrowed her eyes. "'Never let people get too close to you. If they try to, be on your guard, no matter who they are or how friendly you think they are.' Right Halt?" she said the last part and grinned.

Halt and I froze, shocked. How did she know that? Then while we were standing there, confused, she flipped her hood up and whirling away, ran off.

I blinked and got onto Tug. Then I made a sweep of the area, looking for her. I didn't see any signs of movement and looked over at Halt.

"I can't find her."

Halt looked back at me and grunted. Then he got back on Abelard and said to me, "We'll look for her later. But let's get something to eat first."

I looked at the sky and noticed it was almost noon. I nodded before turning Tug around and we rode back to the cabin.

Tristan's POV

While Will and Halt were standing there, dumbfounded by what I had just said, I turned and bolted into the forest. I ducked down near a bush and covered myself with the cloak and peered out at them.

Will was back on his horse and was scanning the landscape. Luckily, I had read all the books, so I knew that I had to keep perfectly still unless I wanted to be spotted.

Then Will said something to Halt and the grizzled Ranger hopped on Abelard. Then they turned and trotted off in the direction of their cottage. Once I knew they wouldn't see me, I slowly pulled myself out from under the bush, being careful not to disrupt it.

I stood up and looked around me. I didn't know where I was, but I knew that if I was stuck here, than I couldn't carry my book around with me.

Walking through the woods, I came upon an old tree that seemed to have a hole in it.

Thanks to reading the books, I knew to check around me before I did anything. I turned around, away from the tree and scanned the forest with my eyes. Once I was sure that no one was there, and didn't have the feeling of being watched, I turned back to the tree and reached into my bag.

I pulled out the black and gray, laminated book and placed it carefully in the tree. Then I grabbed a few branches and covered up the hole. I made sure that it didn't look obvious that someone was hiding something so that no one would get suspicious and end up snooping.

Then I turned around and scanned the bushes once more before pulling my dagger from my bag, strapping it to my belt, and heading back out into the woods.

Interesting? If you noticed, I threw in a few quotes from the first book. I hope to do that for the rest of the story.

Please don't forget to give me feedback!
