"Get out of the car!"
With no choice, Nina stepped out, her expression disgusted. Jack immediately slammed her against the door. Not for the first time that day, he held a gun to her head. Except this time, it was real. Right now, he wanted nothing more than to put multiple bullets in her disturbed brain.
Jack shut his eyes, unable to believe that this was really happening. Reopening them, he stared into her eyes. But these weren't the same eyes he'd gazed into many times before. These weren't the eyes of Nina Myers. These were they eyes of a stranger. A traitor. A monster.
"Jack!" he heard George Mason's voice calling him. Even though Mason was close by, Jack could barely hear him. Right now it was just him, Nina, and everything in their past rushing by.
How could she? He'd trusted her more than anyone. He'd given up his life and his family to be with her. If Teri wasn't such a good person and given him a second chance, he would have lost her forever.
But Nina? Nina Myers; his second-in-command, and more importantly, his friend. He'd trusted her to take care of his family all day. He'd trusted her with their lives. And all along, he'd been putting Teri and Kimberly, the loves of his life, right in harm's way.
One of his hands gripped his gun, and the other was around Nina's neck. His finger was on the trigger, ready to pull it any second. But whenever he was about to, he remembered the duty he had to his country, and to his family. Nina was their only resource toward making sure this day wouldn't happen all over again.
As Jack stared at her, though, he realized that he'd never hated anyone more. She had a choice, and she chose to betray everyone she knew.
"Jack, don't do it," Mason told him, bringing Jack back to reality.
"Jack, if you kill me, you won't know who I work for. You think I work for Drazen; I don't."
"Jack." He saw Tony on the other side of the car. She had done the same thing to him. She'd played them both, and they'd fallen for it.
Again, he thought of his family. If he let her go, they could get information out of her, and he could go back to Teri and Kim. His mind made up, he took one last look at the woman who had ruined his life on countless occasions. He slowly lowered his gun and roughly let go of Nina's neck, allowing her to be taken into custody. He followed Mason back toward the door; away from Nina Myers and his past involving her, and back to the people he loved.
If only he knew that his day wasn't quite over.
