Snape's Farewell

He stood outside the tiny cottage, looking at the roof which had partially collapsed. "Dear Merlin, let her be alive!" It was a vain and desperate thought, but desperately clung to.
The lights on the first floor was all off, not a single sign of the people living there. "LILY!" No response came from upstairs. "If he's managed to kill them, I swear I'll..." The train of thoughts was broken as he spotted a pair of bare feet. "James." The man in front of him laid in a twisted position, possibly from falling when the curse hit.
A light in the end of the hall caught his attention. The floor was covered with bricks and dust; he hoped Lily had at least something to defend herself…along with her son. His wand was at the ready.
He nearly fell on all fours as he saw her lying there. The light had left her eyes, leaving only the shell of what once had been Lily Evans. "No, no, no!" The strength had left him, and tears fell freely down his face. "NOT MY LILY!" His sudden cry had shaken the boy from his apparent obliviousness.
She was as light as a feather when he cradled her in his arms. It didn't matter that Voldemort had been defeated, the one and only person who'd ever meant anything to him had been taken away. Lily was gone, never to return. He cried along with the boy as thunder tore the sky to pieces outside. A part of him was gone, crushed to pieces, never to be healed.
Her icy cold skin against his burning hot brought him back to reality. He kissed her forehead, and just stared at her as the tears continued to fall.
17 years later, he stood in the churchyard at Godric's Hollow, staring at her gravestone. A single red rose was placed in front of it. "I love you, Lily Evans," Snape whispered, "And I will see you again, mark my word."
*Le sob*
