In every organism on Earth there exists a mutant gene - the X-factor, as it has come to be known. It is the basic building block of evolution - the reason we have evolved from homo habilus to homo erectus, to homo sapiens Neanderthals, and, finally, to homo sapiens. Taking it's cues from the climate, terrain, various sources of nourishment, the mutant gene tells the body when it needs to change to adapt to a new environment. The process is subtle, normally taking thousands of years.

Only in the last few thousand years did mankind begin to make clothes for himself, build shelters, use heat and grow food in large quantities. With this man-made environment remaining relatively stable, the X-factor became dormant.

Until now.

Mutants. Since the birth of their existence, they have been regarded with fear, suspicion, and hatred. Across the planet, debate rages: Are mutants the next link in the evolutionary chain, or simply a new species of humanity, fighting for their share of the world? Either way, one fact has been historically proven: Sharing the would has never been humanity's defining attribute.

In a small part of Westchester County, New York, known as Bayville sat a huge pale tan house; where this debate isn't care for. This is a safe house for those who are Mutants. Those unwanted by the world, who wish to live a somewhat norm life. Here teachers teach how to control the gifts given to them, and how to live beyond what was given to them. To rise up and have a dream, it is run by one man, Professor Charles Francis Xavier.

I have been watching him for a long time now, wondering if I should make my way to them. If I should show them what I can do. What they did to me. Then again, my Uncle believes I'm safer with him. He was the one who got me out, he was the one who took care of me when I became ill. Yet, right now my Mutation is getting out of hand. I feel sick most of the time, and he believes we are being followed.

To my luck we moved to Bayville, he got a nice little house for us, and I learn that another group started in the chase for me. This also brought us closer to Xavier, but

for some reason Uncle doesn't like the idea of me going off. He can train me just like anyone else to control what has become my curse.

The last gift I got from my Mother before she went missing was a note book, and drawing pad. Simple just like me, and I've started writing in it now. I don't know why, but I believe it'll help me cope with everything that has been happening. Art has always ran through my families blood. My father and uncle joined the army so I am kind of an Army Brat, I don't mind I know how to kick ass then.

Uncle's friend Nick Fury, who works as leader to a group called S.H.I.E.L.D, said moving to Bayville is the best thing for me. It is also closer to his agency, so Uncle can work, the science geek he is. If you think about it Nick Fury became another Uncle to me. He's very nice even if the Patch makes him look evil to a point.

To my Uncles I am an angel, helping no matter where I go. To other's I'm a freak. For the rest they want me for the fact my powers are forever growing. All I want to be is me. My name is Airleas Dragons, and I want to be normal.
