Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter..okay?
A/N: Not my best. Snape is hard to get to the core of.
Severus Snape had always known he was different. Besides being a wizard, that is.
He lived in a neighbourhood of Muggles, his mom and himself being the only wizards. It didn't bother him. His mom had told him everything about the wizarding world, Hogwarts and the Ministry of Magic. He had always known he was a wizard. When he was younger, his mom had cast a spell over his toys that made them speak. It was incredible in the young eyes of Severus Snape. He couldn't wait to go to Hogwarts and be able to do the things his mom did.
The only problem was his father, Tobias Snape. He was a Muggle. A very disgusting kind of Muggle. He disliked everything about magic and if he discovered that Severus' mom had used some kind of that, he beat her. Tobias Snape found magic unnatural and weird. In his words; 'only freaks used that kind of stuff'.
But Severus still found it amazing.
Hogwarts didn't live up to his expectations. Severus hadn't expected to get any friends, except Lily, but it disappointed him that the other students didn't consider being smart as good like he did. They would rather have fun, than to learn. Severus also liked to have fun, but he also wanted to learn. He liked to learn. Only Lily understood this.
Then the 'Marauders', as they called themselves, chose him as a victim. Severus was different, therefore he should be punished. They teased him, stole his things, and made his life a living hell. Severus refused to cry. Boys didn't cry, his father had told him that. He bit it back, and eventually learned how to cover his emotions. He wore masks, that no one saw underneath.
He grew to hate the four idiots, that called themself 'the Marauders'. He could stand the teasing, the bullying, but he hated them for making him losing Lily. He knew it was partly his own fault, he shouldn't have called her that, but they made him. He didn't want to lose face in front of them. Not more than he already had.
No, Hogwarts certainly didn't live up to his expectations. He had expected to find students like him, someone who wanted to learn, but instead he lost the only friend he ever had.
So, when he later was offered to teach there, he really didn't want to. But it was the best job he could get, even if it meant dealing with children. Also, he owned Dumbledore a favor.
At first, the students teased him, or tried to, and tried to trick him, but they eventually learned that Severus Snape wasn't someone you could mess with. Severus knew that the students grew to hate him, as he was quick to hand out detentions, but he didn't care.
They couldn't hurt him. Now, he had the power. He was the teacher, they were only students. The students quickly learned not to make fun of him, because he discovered. Instead they made fun of him when he wasn't anywhere near. That didn't bother Snape. It was to be expected, as he was a teacher, and that he also was quick to punish them.
But no, Hogwarts certainly didn't live up to his expectations.
