Did I ever tell you about Jimmy Lark? Not many people remember him, you know. Let's see now, it was the summer of 1995 and I was playing out in the yard with my dog, Yeti, but that doesn't really matter. That day I remember Jimmy Lark was walking about. Boy, that Jimmy Lark was an odd one, I tell ya. Would always wear a suit, and a bow tie, and was maybe in his late twenties. Don't know much of where he came from, except for the fact that he was from England, I think, because of his accent, you see. But he seemed to be up all hours of the day, walking about and talking to himself or to random strangers about some nonsense about this machine of his. Said it was a time machine, and that he'd used it once and that's why he was in this time, but needed some time to fix it before he could go back to the future. Nobody really believed him, of course, but I liked to listen to what he had to say because I thought he was an interesting person. A boy of 11 years old can hardly help but be fascinated by such stories. That one day was different, though. Apparently he had finished his work on his machine and was going to leave shortly. I got kind of curious and asked what year he was going to. He looked at me, with a strange glimmer in his eye and simply said, "Any time, anywhere." I got a feeling that he was dead serious about what he had said so I got even more interested.
"Could I maybe go with you?" I said with pure curiosity, yearning for adventure.
"Maybe someday when you're older... you might want to talk to your mum about it first," he said as he started to walk along again, but turned back to face me. "By the way, what's your name?"
"Caleb Holt." I said with as much confidence as possible, hoping that maybe he'd reconsider his answer.
"Caleb Holt," he said to himself, "cool name. I'm sure I'll remember it."
That same day he vanished, his refrigerator still had milk in it and he had forgotten all of his money at his apartment. To most of the town, he just up and left. But something tells me he didn't need any of that where he was going... "Any time, Anywhere." I still watch out for that man, 45 years later. I always hope that one day, he'll remember my name and come back to take me on that adventure. But if not, I hope he'll take you, Caleb Jr.. For my sake. Have an adventure on me.
