Brittany was alone in Sue Sylvester's house. She was house-sitting.
"Wait up," Coach had said two days ago after practice. "I know you're not dumb like everyone thinks you are, but I also know you're not dumb enough to look through my stuff. I am going out of town for the weekend and you are going to look after my house." Brittany had no time to respond; her coach gave her the address and told her to be there Friday at seven, "or else."
"What was that all about?" Santana asked after Sue had left.
"I'm gonna watch her house this weekend."
"You have to sleep at Coach's house? Are you at least getting paid?" she quizzed.
Brittany shrugged and Santana knew the answer was no.
Being in Coach's house by herself definitely freaked Brittany out. Coach was a scary person, and being in her house was scary too. Brittany wasn't even sure Coach was a real person; maybe she was a robot or an alien. There was just no way a real person lived in this house. There was no food, except the nasty concoction she made the Cheerios drink when she wanted them to lose weight (which was always). There were no clothes, except track suits. There were no pictures of her family, only of herself. There was an eerie Madonna room that she probably wasn't meant to see. The worst part was, there was a constant humming from the huge lights on the wall-sized mirror. None of the switches on the wall turned them off. Brittany knew she didn't want to be there alone anymore, so she called Santana.
"Hey," Santana answered.
"Hey, um, can you come over?"
"What? To Coach's?"
"It's really creepy here. I don't think Coach is human."
She heard Santana laugh, "Okay, give me a minute."
Brittany didn't know what to do while she waited. She had seen enough of the house and didn't want to touch anything because she knew somehow Coach would find out. So, she began to drift off, thinking about Coach being a robot. Maybe she needs those lights on at all times to keep her batteries charged. And the reason those drinks she gives us taste so bad is because they aren't made of human food. But why is she here? And why is she a cheerleading coach? What evil plan could that be a part of? Or do they just not have robot cheerleaders and so she pretends to be a human to coach us? But then why is she so mean to us? Brittany was definitely scared that Coach was going to use her brain for evil when she felt Santana's hands on her shoulders.
"Are you okay?" she asked quietly.
"No," Brittany said, meeting her eyes.
"Well, it will be. I'm here to scare the monsters away," she said, offering her hand.
"Robots," Brittany corrected.
"Show me."
Brittany led Santana into the room with the scary mirror. "It won't turn off."
Santana flicked the same switches that Brittany had and nothing happened. She looked around for a plug or a hidden way to turn it off, but the lights remained on. Santana lifted her fist, but Brittany stopped her from punching anything.
"Can you just stay with me?"
Santana's anger is replaced with a smile, "Yes," she said with a soft kiss.
