Spoilers: The Honeymoon's Over.
I just made a video on Youtube for Ray and Neela to this song and I had an urge to write a fic to go with it it only look an hour or so and it's just a little short one-shot. Hope you like it.
Happy Ending
This is the way you left me.
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory.
No happy ending.
Ray sighed taking his gaze off his mother to look out the window. This was it. He was leaving, leaving Chicago, leaving County and leaving…her." You'll get through this, I promise," her last words to him. What did she mean by them? Was there really a chance she would visit? Was there really another chance for them? He shook his head bitterly. He shouldn't even be thinking about her let alone giving her another chance if anybody else had put him through this much turmoil, played with his heart so much he would have dropped them in a blink of an eye…but then again this was just anybody this was Neela. The only person who could possibly do this to him and he would still think about forgiving her. 'You're freaking pathetic, Barnett, you just almost lost you're life (which was caused by something to do with her) and you're all lovey-dovey doped up by some measly words and one bloody kiss on the cheek,' but then again it was one very nice kiss one the cheek… 'Argh there you go again!'.
He let out a deep sigh. This was hopeless. Jacy shifted in her seat to glance at her son.
"Are you okay?" she asked worriedly.
Ray nodded. "Yeah mum, just a bit uncomfortable," Ray replied shifting in his wheelchair.
"Maybe we should stop, help you settle in more-" she began.
Ray shook his head.
"No mum, it's fine, really," he added as she gazed at him unconvinced.
"Okayy sweetie…" she drawled slowly turning back around.
Ray let out a groan, making sure this time it was barely audible. This was going to take some – actually a lot of getting used too, having everyone wait over him hand and foot. His mum had already gone from being distant these past years to being over bearing and watching his every move and Katey…well she was another extreme. He knew she was just worried about him as well but whoa she needed to take a break and sit down as well. He had been surprised to find her waiting by his bedside when he had woken up. He had thought and hoped that it would have been Neela after all she had been listed as his number one emergency contact in Chicago. Actually he was still puzzled by why she had been there. They barely had much of a relationship since…he and Neela had kissed…and after their more than awkward conversation in the ER a couple days before…the wedding…he had thought they had pretty much been done but now things had changed –again- and he was beginning to feel that Katey thought they had another shot together and even though he thought she was a great girl, she wasn't the girl for him.
Because really there was only one girl for him.
And it was the one and only girl he couldn't have.
This is the way that we love,
Like it's forever.
Then live the rest of our life,
But not together.
What did ya think? Like it or hate it?
