Chapter One. A rough awakening.

The sound of the ocean soothingly lapping at the shore was the first thing he noticed.

The next were the following sensations; a gentle warmth against his back, cold wetness at his feet, and the feeling of rough sand that pressed into his face. The man slowly moved his splayed arms underneath his chest, and gingerly pushed himself up and onto his knees. When he open his eyes the light, at first, stung.

But after a few moments, he began to make out the aspects of the small beach he was kneeling upon. Straight ahead was a large hill peppered with trees, to his left he saw how the beach was ended abruptly by a large cliff. At his right laid a flat and featureless desert, of which the beach flowed into. Behind him was the ocean that stretched out endlessly. There was no sign of any ships or boats sailing on the waters, and since he didn't have one himself, that wasn't an option.

The desert was, of course, not so much of an option either. Less of one since he had no fresh water of food supplies. His best bet was to move forwards and try to find some kind of settlement and civilization. From there he could work out where he was, and how he could get back to the Shire.

His hands reached to his belt, and found the familiar touch of his elvish hunting knife. But found no sword, just an empty scabbard. He checked his quiver, which was strapped across his back, but found it empty also. Any arrows wouldn't have been any use to him then anyway, as he could not locate his bow. He presumed the items lost to the ocean's depths.

His hand then shoot to his neck, and his fingertips gently grazed the beautiful jewelled necklace that hung there. He breathed a sigh of relief. He could have dealt with losing anything else. But that was the proof of her love for him, and his love for her. A symbol of the reason for him to return.

Rising to his feet he brushed down the sand that clung to his clothes. He forced himself to place one foot in front of the other, and begin the first leg of a very long journey.

"Gods Aragorn, what have you gotten yourself into now" The man rasped at himself after a long sigh.

Authors notes:

A slow start, took me longer to get this down then I wanted. *sigh* But C'est la vie.

I really have no idea where this story is going to go, or how long it will be. But I'll try to get the chapters a lot longer then this, with more happening with.
Think of this a mere stepping stone to, what I hope will be, a better and enjoyable story.
