Infection
The cut on Merlin's arm gets infected during The Last Dragonlord. One Shot.
After Merlin ate supper he went to clean his bowl. Balinor looked at him. He watched as Merlin cleaned. When Merlin stood up, he handed Balinor the clean spoon and bowl. Balinor went to put them away. Then Merlin started panting.
"What is it?" Balinor asked.
"My arm. I got cut by a sword about a week ago. I forgot to get it treated." Merlin answered. Then he collapsed. Balinor grabbed him and helped him lie down on one of the bed rolls. Merlin was losing consciousness.
"Stay awake." Balinor ordered. Merlin didn't hear. Balinor took Merlin's neckerchief, jacket, and shirt off. He saw the cut on Merlin's pale arm. He gently shook Merlin. Merlin opened his eyes wider but then went unconscious. Balinor saw that Merlin's arm was badly infected. He put his hand on Merlin's forehead. Merlin had a dangerously high fever. He cleaned the wound and used magic to get rid of most of the infection. He took a cold wet cloth and wiped Merlin's forehead. He bandaged Merlin's wound and watched over Merlin. It was dawn when Merlin woke up.
"What happened?" Merlin croaked.
"You passed out because the infection. I need you to drink something." Balinor answered.
"Ok."
Then Balinor got a cup of warm liquid. He helped Merlin sit up and drink the liquid. When Merlin was done, he relaxed against Balinor.
"You'll need to drink more of this stuff tonight to help your wound." Balinor said.
"Ok." Merlin replied. Then when Balinor found out about Merlin, he was happy. When Balinor and Merlin were done collecting fire wood, they made a fire. Merlin felt a bit cold and leaned against his father.
"Merlin, you need to drink the potion." Balinor ordered sternly.
"At least it's better than Gaius' potions." Merlin sighed. Balinor and Merlin smiled. Balinor got the potion and warmed it up. Then he gave it to Merlin who drank it all. Balinor looked at Merlin's arm and bandaged Merlin's arm. Then Balinor died. Merlin looked at his wound and remembered his father.
