Disclaimer: The Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia) is a short to medium, slender, hairless perennial. The root leaves are round and wither early. The leaves on the stem are linear, the upper ones being unstalked. The flowers are blue, 15 mm long and on long thin stalks and in loose clusters.
Notes: This is based on a random note someone randomly left on a random thread of a random site. I altered the lines and some scene so that it can fit well with the scenes involving Tezuka and Fuji. So I own half the idea.
Resignation
I looked at Fuji's fingertips, noticing it was almost touching my own, just near the table's edge. I tried to estimate the distance between Fuji's left ring finger and my own right ring finger.
Fuji's hand, for the moment motionless beside his textbook, fascinates me like the rest of Fuji.
Fuji looked up and caught me looking straight at him as my notes lay forgotten on the surface of the table. Fuji smiled, as if to say "What will you do for the Japanese History exam?"
Fuji's attention was back on the book he was reading, the pages devouring him again.
I tried to concentrate. But the thunder roaring just outside the school is harsh; the faint flipping of pages, annoying. So I looked again at our hands, now anxious to know only one thing: How far?
I attempted to measure with my eyes. There's a ruler on Fuji's right, but I dared not use it.
Just a little over two centimeters, I thought.
Fuji's middle finger twitches and I held my breath. The momentary movement, almost spastic from my vantage point, ceased.
Yes, about two centimeters.
Fuji's mobile rang. He picked it up with his right hand and Fuji smiled his angelic smile again; his eyes apologized for the disturbance.
Fuji spoke. "Hi, Saeki yes I'm just about to finish. The roses were nice. See you at seven, Ok? Bye, I love you."
Fuji smiled at me for the third time, put down the phone, and returned to his book for a few more minutes.
My right hand hadn't move.
Again, I assessed the distance.
A thousand kilometers at least…
Harebell
"I bow to your will but still hope on."
