Vita meets Kyoko
Author's Note: This is rated T for a reason- for some violence and language. I don't own Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha or Puella Magi Madoka Magica. This story takes place before Kyoko meets Sayaka and before the Book of Darkness is completed. Hope you enjoy :)
Vita searched the area. She was floating above a busy town in Japan, still busily searching for any source of magic to quickly fill up pages in the book of darkness.
"Hayate will become the master of the book of darkness." She muttered to herself. It had to happen.
Graf Eisen, her magical device, was still thoroughly searching the town for any source of magic.
A couple minutes later, Graf Eisen stopped. "Mage detected worth about 40 pages." Graf Eisen finally told her in response.
"I wonder why it's so many. But, thanks" Vita answered as she started to fly down towards the undercover mage. It was nothing new to her; she was used to battling every day. But, one day all of her fighting would be worth something.
The mage didn't appear to be paying attention as Vita approached her at the speed of lightning.
"Todliche Strafe!" Vita yelled out as she got ready and swung Graf Eisen towards the girl.
The girl quickly moved out of the way and dodged the attack. She might've seemed clueless, but she did notice her attack.
"You want to a fight? Okay, I'm in."
The girl had red hair just like Vita and appeared to be a teenager. She was eating candy as she lifted up her hand with a ring on it.
The ring glowed and so did the rest of her body.
Her current outfit morphed into a magical girl outfit. Instead of having a magical device like Vita, she had a spear as a weapon.
She used her spear to defend against Graf Eisen.
"I like to teach magical girls like you lessons." She remarked.
"I'm not a typical magical girl, but I am busy. So, move the heck out of my way and let me finish you off." Vita yelled out as she deliberately forced her weapon into to her opponent's spear.
'At least my spear is sturdy.' She thought. But, she knew it was impossible for her stay in this position forever.
So, she changed her spear into chains and pushed Vita's weapon away.
"Damn you." Vita cursed under her breath. She needed this girl's magic. Mages always caused the Book of Darkness to receive a bunch of pages.
"Well at least I'm not a little kid with no experience." The girl insulted.
"You little-" Vita angrily murmured. "I'm probably older than you anyway!" She snapped back.
"Fine. Age isn't what matters; all that truly counts is experience."
She spun her chain-spear around and pushed forward towards her opponent.
Vita hopped out of the way.
Kyoko turned around as soon as she reached the spot Vita stood only moments ago.
"Schwalbenflug" Graf Eisen yelled out as magical orbs appeared between Vita fingers.
She threw them out as she hit them with Graf Eisen like a bat.
Kyoko jumped to the side and dodged the attack. Then, she did again and again, jumping all around the other mage.
"You have more experience than I thought." Kyoko admitted.
She pulled on the chain of her spear and it tightened around Vita.
'Darn it. I should've seen that one coming.'
Vita felt the constricting chain keep her unable to move. She struggled and tried to lift Graf Eisen.
"Todliche Strafe" She muttered out, trying to do an attack of any kind. Then she remembered something.
'It doesn't matter what I have to do. As long as it's for Hayate, I can go through a little pain if she deals with even more pain every day.'
Vita's thoughts gave her back her strength. She elbowed out of the chains with all her might.
'Master Hayate is going to be home soon.' Shamal told her telepathically.
'Okay. I'll get there soon. I just need to finish this.' Vita replied back.
'Do you want Zafira's help? He can help you handle the rest if-'
'No. I can handle this mage myself. Just give me time.' Vita requested.
"Done with the fun already?" Kyoko answered, swinging her spear (which was back in its original form).
"No." Vita snapped back as she prepared her weapon, getting ready to add new cartridges to increase her device's power.
Kyoko just yawned. "Are we going to finish this today, or what?"
'I need to get back...' Vita realized. She really wanted the forty pages this girl's magic provided, but also needed to get home.
"We'll postpone this for now. But, it's not over!" Vita yelled out as she vanished.
Kyoko detransformed. Her soul gem was still a bright pure red color.
"I always enjoy a challenge." She added with a smirk as she left the scene as if nothing had happened.
Later that day at the grocery store, Vita was with Signum, Shamal and Hayate. Zafira wasn't there and was still busily fighting.
Shamal was pushing Hayate through the store as she looked for ingredients.
"So you wanted some white rice, some vegetables and what else?" Shamal nicely asked.
"Eggs. The rest of the ingredients I already have at the house. I might also get some Pocky for me and my friends to share." Hayate answered.
"Very well." Signum nodded.
Eventually, they got the white rice, eggs and the vegetables. All that was left was to find the Pocky in the candy aisle.
"It's down here." Signum pointed to an aisle.
"Thank you very much." Hayate replied with a smile.
Shamal pushed her through the aisle with Signum and Vita in tow. The aisle had a few people in it, but it wasn't overly crowded.
"Ah. Here it is." Shamal exclaimed with a stop.
There was someone standing right in front of the Pocky.
"Uh...excuse me." Shamal told the person. The person was right in Hayate's way.
The person turned around and gave an unwelcoming glare to them.
Vita's eyes widened. She knew exactly who this girl was.
'What's she doing here?' Vita angrily wondered. She would've gotten all in this girl's face, but she didn't want to cause Hayate any trouble.
Kyoko moved aside, but secretly rolled her eyes. It was obvious she didn't want to move.
Hayate reached out and grabbed a box of Pocky. Once she did, Shamal continued to push Hayate's wheelchair through the aisle. Signum followed, while Vita stayed behind.
"What the heck is your problem?"
"I should ask you the same thing." She commented as she munched on her unpaid for box of Pocky.
"I wanted to fight you later, not now."
"Well, it's later." Kyoko clarified.
Vita pouted. "Not what I was talking about. Now just leave because I'm not ready to fight you now."
Kyoko transformed with her spear in hand.
"You started the fight before. Now, it's my turn." She pointed her spear at Vita. "I don't care what it looks like. We could blow up this whole building and I wouldn't care."
Vita really didn't want to fight. Not now. But, this magical girl wasn't backing down any time soon.
"How about later?" Vita questioned.
"I'm not so sure about that." Kyoko answered with a smirk. She tightened her grip on her spear.
"Okay. I'll-" Vita started before a familiar voice interrupted her.
"Vita, Master Hayate is wondering where you are." Signum explained.
Vita turned her head slightly to look at the leader of the knights.
"Tell her I'll be there in a little bit."
"Okay, but do you need any help right now?" Signum wondered as she watched Kyoko keep her spear aimed at Vita.
"No, I don't need any help." Vita snapped back. "I can handle this mage all on my own!"
"Well okay." Signum nodded as she left to leave Vita alone with her opponent.
Vita turned back towards Kyoko.
"Fine. I'll fight you if that's what you want. Just get ready to be crushed." Vita replied.
"You should be telling yourself that, bitch."
Vita narrowed her eyes and transformed.
"Graf Eisen!" She yelled out.
"Yes master." It replied in German.
Kyoko pulled her spear back. Vita took this as an opportunity to make a move.
"Todliche Strafe!"
She lunged forward with Graf Eisen to hit Kyoko. Kyoko just simply blocked the attack with the pole of her spear.
"Go through it!" Vita commanded. This magical girl would be easy to defeat as soon as she no longer had her weapon.
"Yes master." Graf Eisen replied as it tried to go through her spear, which unfortunately, didn't seem to be working.
Kyoko had an idea. She pushed Graf Eisen away for a little while longer. Then, she quickly jumped back, pulling the spear away with her.
Vita wasn't expecting the sudden movement, so Graf Eisen crashed into the floor.
"This girl is irritating the crap out of me."
Vita picked up Graf Eisen. Still, she needed this girl's magic for the Book of Darkness, so she had to weaken her somehow.
'Should I corner her? Do Rocket Mode? Take her spear away?' She wondered. She needed a plan and quick.
After a little more thinking, she finally made up her mind. 'Maybe I can do all of the above.'
So, Vita's mind was set.
She picked up Graf Eisen, added more magical cartridges and shouted a German phrase.
"Raketenform." Graf Eisen replied.
The top of Graf Eisen spun around and spikes shot from both sides.
"Let's finish this." Vita muttered. "Raketen Hammer!" She yelled out, ignoring all of the strange looks she was receiving from the few customers left in the store.
Kyoko jumped backwards as Vita thrusted forward with her magical device.
Kyoko held up her spear as Vita crashed into it with Graf Eisen.
"You're not going to be able to beat me, bitchy kid."
Vita's eyes widened.
'Did she really just go there? She said she wanted to teach me a lesson, I think I'm the one who needs to teach her a lesson.'
"Smash through it!" Vita commanded.
"Yes master." Graf Eisen understood as it drilled even harder into the metal pole of the spear.
Kyoko put all of her strength into holding up her spear against Vita's attack.
"I'm not giving up." She muttered her thoughts aloud.
Vita kept drilling Graf Eisen into her opponent's weapon.
"Neither am I!" Vita yelled out.
If there was anyone left in the store before, they had to be far away by now. The sound of the two clashing weapons would, without any doubt, give someone a headache.
After a couple minutes, Vita was starting to get tired, but wasn't going to give up.
Kyoko's weapon wasn't holding up well either. The metal pole eventually started to crack and break apart. The top of the spear fell to the ground, but it was impossible for Kyoko to grab it with Vita so close.
Vita lifted up her weapon and hit Kyoko with it.
"Raketen Hammer!" She yelled out as the weapon hit Kyoko.
A defenseless Kyoko did all she could to stop the weapon, but it deemed useless.
Vita continued to hit Kyoko with her weapon, eventually getting dangerously close to her source of magic, her soul gem.
Kyoko had to speak up about this.
"Damn...what the heck are you doing?"
Vita just stayed silent and continued weakening the magical girl.
"Are you trying to kill me? I know I was kind of a bitch to you, but I didn't think that worth killing for!"
Vita only continued, finally reached Kyoko's soul gem, slightly cracking it.
Kyoko then switched her yelling to a tone of sadness. "Is this really what you want? To kill me?"
Vita stopped and pulled her weapon away for a second. It was obvious that her opponent was weak, but she needed to think for a second.
"That shouldn't kill you; it'll just take away your magic." Vita explained as Graf Eisen discarded the empty magic cartridges.
Kyoko was out of breath and held on tightly to her soul gem.
"Maybe for normal magical girls like you." She claimed. "I, on the other hand, made a contract to becoming one, which combined my soul and my magic into one. If you kill my magic, you kill me. At the beginning, I thought being a magical girl was so cool, but then I realized how hard of a job it can be. That's why I want to teach dumb idiotic magical girls that it's serious business and not a joke."
Vita lowered her weapon.
"I'm not going to kill anybody. Also, you seem like a great opponent, so I feel bad about this. But, I need your magic to help my friend, so Book of Darkness!"
The magical brown book appeared in her arm.
"I need to help my master."
She raised the book into the air and it opened up to the first clean page.
"Absorb!" She ordered.
The book started absorbing Kyoko's magic, filling up the pages quickly.
Her once bright crimson red soul gem started to fade. Pain ached through her body.
'Is this the end?' She wondered curiously as she helplessly watched Vita absorbing her magic from her.
She used her little strength left to say one more thing. "I enjoyed fighting you, Vita."
That was the moment that changed Vita's mind. She couldn't do this; the girl may be an asshole, but she was kind of a friend.
"Close!" Vita ordered the book of darkness. The book did what it was told.
'Well at least fifteen more pages are completed.' Vita thought as she flipped through the book. However, there were still too many pages left blank.
"Why'd you stop?" Kyoko questioned, confused.
"I'm not cruel. Besides, I want to fight you again, someday." Vita replied, with a slight smirk at the last part.
"Once my magic recovers, I'm going to practice hard, so I'll be able to win next time." Kyoko confidently added, detransforming while she did.
"I got to go." Vita waved. "I can't wait to beat you again."
"What are you talking about; I'm going to be the one to crush you." Kyoko remarked.
"We'll see about that." Vita added before starting to walk away.
"Hey! Before you go at least take one of these boxes of Pocky with you. They're really good; you should try them." Kyoko picked up one of the scattered boxes on the floor and tossed it to Vita.
"Uh...okay." Vita stuttered, unsure of what else to say.
"See you later!" Kyoko waved as she left the mess of what used to be a grocery store.
Vita waved back before started to head back to Hayate's home. While doing so, she opened the box of Pocky and decided to eat one of the chocolate-covered biscuits sticks.
"She's right; they are pretty good." Vita commented as she continuing munching on the candy all the way back home.
