Rachel had stopped keeping track of how many pregnancy tests she had used within the past year. It had to be more than 5, or was it 10? When they had met Quinn and Puck's baby at the Glee Club reunion last summer, Finn and Rachel finally decided they wanted one of their own.
Please be positive, please be positive Rachel repeated to herself as she started the timer on her phone and waited.
5…4…3…2…1…She stopped the timer, slowly got up from where she was perched on the edge of the bathtub and flipped the test over. One pink line staring back at her.
"Rachel?" called Finn from the bedroom. He had heard the timer go off and was getting nervous because Rachel didn't come out of the bathroom.
"It's negative." He almost didn't hear the faint whisper. He got up from the bed he was sitting on and walked over to the bathroom door.
"Babe?"
He knocked before opening the door to find his wife, sitting next to the bathtub, sobbing. He quickly went over to her side and held her in his arms.
"Hey, shh, shh, stop, it's ok. We'll try again."
"But what if there's something wrong with me?" She asked as she cried into his chest. "I mean it has to be right? We've been trying so hard and really how hard can it be to get a baby?"
"There's nothing wrong with you." He pressed a soft kiss on her head.
"But…but you've wanted this for so long and now I'm such a horrible wife for not being able to do the one thing I'm supposed to."
"Hey, Rach, look at me. You're a perfect wife. And the only thing you're supposed to be doing is to love me. Do you?" He teased.
"Yes, I love you." She whispered to his lips as they shared a passionate kiss. They sat in a few seconds of comfortable silence before Finn spoke up.
"Maybe we're trying too hard."
"What?" She looked up at him, sniffling, trying to control the tears.
"Well, I actually talked to Will about it and I remember him saying that for him and Emma, they got the baby when they stopped trying. Maybe we should give it a break?"
Finn really hated seeing Rachel like this and after the last time they had taken the pregnancy test, he called his old teacher and good friend about the situation.
"Okay." She smiled into his chest.
