A/N: Another short story for English class. Since I have no other inspiration other than Harry Potter, I'm basing all my free-write assignments off of the Marauders. They rock. This story is written in Dramatic Monologue (GASP ANOTHER LITERARY TERM) and we basically overhear James speaking out loud to Remus. Once again, I would edit it more, but I'd much rather work on my other story, Distant Memories. And once again, it had a one-page limit. So I hope you all enjoy this.
You're asking me what makes Lily so special? Come on, Remus. I mean it. That's not a question that you ask James Potter. But since I know how stubborn you are, I will answer your question. Just this one time. You're one lucky guy. On normal circumstances, I wouldn't bother. I wouldn't be able to sum it up in words.
Okay, okay! Don't give me that look, Moony. Okay, what makes Lily Evans so special? Oh God, I can't even begin to describe it. She's got that fire, that spark that won't be diminished by anything or anyone, you know? She's so stubborn, but I guess it's good too. Except for the fact that she won't give me a chance.
I know that she hates me. She yelled that in my face, those direct words. I mean, I don't really see the reason she hates me. I think she's refused me for a date, what, fifty times by now? Sure, I may be a little egoistical and a little...immature, but hey, I'm a teenager! I mean, what does she expect from me? I'm not some fifty-year-old with life's experience. Nope. I'm a kid, trying to enjoy my life. And because of that fact, after I dyed her hair green using a charm, she hexed me all the way to the hospital wing. I've still got the hex mark on my arm. All I was trying to do was match her hair with her eyes, she didn't need to curse me for it.
Stop laughing Remus, or I'll throw you into the fireplace. This common room has a mighty big one, you know. Anyway, where was I. Oh yes. Well, Lily won't give me the time of day, but I guess that's part of her charm. I can get any girl I want in this school except for her. Remus, stop rolling your eyes, you know that it's true. As I was saying, I can get any girl in the whole of Hogwarts to go out with me. You know, except for Lily. And that really frustrates me. I know that you think it's a part of my ego and that it ruins my self-esteem when a girl refuses to go out with me. I guess you're partly right. But the thing is, I guess that's one of the most attractive things about her, other than her gorgeous red hair and emerald eyes…those beautiful green windows to her everlasting soul...
I'm getting off-topic again. I guess I like her because…she's not like the other girls. I mean, she refuses to go out with me, for heaven's sake, and she's the only girl to refuse my charm! But other than that, she's not easily won over. She's not weak. She doesn't give in. She puts up a fight, and if she really wanted to, she could kill me. I mean, seriously. I remember when I hated her as she hated me. I think the only reason I hated her was because I was intimidated, in a way. Lily Evans knows what she wants, and right now, it's obviously not me.
But I'll change her mind, you just wait and see, Remus. Don't give me that look of disbelief. I'll change your mind too, I'll prove you wrong. I'll prove all of you wrong. I love Lily Evans, and someday soon, she'll love me too.
