The journey home
Itachi x Sakura
400 words

The sun beams stroke her bony face with a haunted caress. Her emerald eyes seem to flutter into the morning light. I know she is going to leave me sometimes today, but I don't have enough strength to feel sad.

Her bony fingers wrapping around my waist, seeking comfort in this miserable situation.

„'Tachi... Hungry..." Bringing her closer, smothering her in my Akatsuki cloak to wrap her in the smallest amount of warmth I still posess.

„I know..." Her breath is shallow, barely ghosting across my pointy clavicle, barely warm enough for me to feel it.

„Sleep..." She closed her eyes and I scooped her closer despite feeling pain every time I moved a limb. There was nothing here to live for, nothing here to eat.

War destroyed everything.

„Sleep, I'll always be here..." Muttering empty promises every single day and night, not knowing who will leave this barren wasteland first. Not knowing if this shallow slumber will be someone's last.

„Tachi... Talk to me... Tell me... stories..." Her words died in a whisper but I understood.

„There was once a little girl... who fought bravely against the fiercest of ninja. Her name was the color of the cherry trees. And her hair just the same..." A light smile was plastered on her pointy, malnourished face but I loved her anyway.

„She fought them with her bare hands, she was so strong... so strong and so beautiful..." A tear of blood escaped my sharingan eyes, it was the last time I will see her smile like that... It was a memory worthy of a lifetime. After all... I was going blind.

„...and she tricked them all into believing she was one of them... And took them to their doom. All but one of them."

„'Tachi... that was you wasn't it?" Her words barely an exhaled breath in the crook of my neck.

„Yes... That was me." Her hand brushed down my front and stilled in my lap, unmoving. Her emerald eyes becoming dull and unfocused.

„I love you Sakura... I always did..." But her chakra blew out like a candle flame and I knew I was too late. That she was gone.

Seeking comfort in her leaving warmth I wrapped her limp hands around my waist, clutching her desperately while choking in my bloodied sobs.

Now there really was nothing worth living for...

Not anymore...
