Disclaimer: Don't own
A/N: I've loved The Sight for a long time, just recently read Fell and I finally decided to write something for it. There really needs to be more stuff for these books. They're so amazing! Anyway, just a little drabble on Kar, so I hope you will enjoy it!
Left Behind
He always felt somehow that he was left behind.
Even when they were pups together, Kar had always been different from the other two. Fell had made it perfectly clear that he was an outsider and had treated him with contempt, despite Larka's attempts to bridge the gap. But the other wolf didn't need Fell to tell him- he knew he was the freak among them. It was somehow strangely twisted, considering he was the one who was most normal while they were the ones bearing a cursed power.
Oh yes, he had sensed it, even when the others had believed it was only Larka who had the Sight. It only made sense that her twin brother should have it as well; they shared everything else, so why not the Sight? But he was young, and an outsider, so he had not dared to suggest such a thing, and in time he forgot.
He had always cared desperately for the twins, yes, even Fell who treated him harshly at times. For ages he had pondered this, wondering why. For the first it was easy; the snowy female was unfailingly kind towards him, always willing to include him, and Kar loved her fiercely with unwavering devotion. It had taken awhile before he had come up with an answer for Fell. When it came, it was so simple and easy, he scoffed at it. Fell was his brother. They might not share the same blood, but they had a bond that was just as strong, if not more so. Kar could barely recall his own family, but he could remember that they had fought nearly as often as he did with the black male. He could hear his mother's voice once again speaking to him softly as she had comforted him after one such confrontation.
'You can choose your friends, Kar, but not your family. Remember, friends may come and go, but your family lasts forever.'
And so Kar withstood the clashes with Fell and the less than warm treatment from Huttser because they were his family, and despite it all, he loved them. Yet despite his love for them, it was not enough, it seemed. No matter what he did, or how hard he tried, he was still left behind.
He felt it in the air, some sixth sense of his, perhaps. It was the feeling of separation. Not that he hadn't tried to prevent it- he had suggested a pact to Larka and Kar, that no matter what might happen to the adults that they would always be there for one another, that they would stick together no matter what. The other two had agreed, and so it was done, the bond between them strengthened. But no pact on earth it seemed, was strong enough to prevent the inevitable.
One by one, the pack was torn apart and scattered, lost. Even Fell, to the icy river. Kar had mourned his lost brother but had forced himself to be strong for Larka, but she too was torn from him by fire and fear. He had searched for her, but to no avail. He had been left behind.
