The black and white keys felt cold, like marble beneath his shaking fingertips as Levi poured out a melody that seemed to shroud the world in raw, unrefined sadness in the form of E minor. His stormy, grey eyes closed, playing the haunting tune purely by memory. It was funny though, to remember how to play something you'd never heard, the notes coming to him naturally as if he were a puppet being controlled by strings.
He took a deep breath as tears formed in the corners of his eyes, contrary to his normal stoic, deadpan gaze. This was the first time in as long as he could remember that he could feel his heart truly beating as the music flowed through his very core, chipping away at the walls he had built around himself.
In the grand scheme of things though, he supposed that those walls were nothing more than a feeble attempt to keep his tears and pain trapped inside. Walls weren't the proper name. Perhaps a dam was more fitting, but as with every dam, given long enough it would surely break, and he supposed that tonight was just as good a night as any to let the flood carry him away.
Crimson dripped down onto the ivory keys, staining them as their faces; the faces he had known only in his dreams forced their way into his mind's eye. A chill swept through him and settled into his bones as he continued to play, the subtle movements of his wrists opening up his wounds wider with each note, letting more of his precious life slip away from him and disappear into the darkness that was enveloping him until finally he took a final shaky breath that seemed to rattle in his lungs, and he allowed himself to be swept under, lost into the inky memories forever.
