She strides powerfully to her car. Each anger and confusion laden step brings her farther away from her emotional source. Her only thought is to reach the car and pump up the stereo. There's only one song in the world that can help her bounce back from this.

A voice calls plaintively to her, interrupting the meditation. "Boonesss!!!" She just keeps walking as if that name belongs to another.

The steps behind her quicken into a run. She was about to also when two strong arms lock her in their jail.

"No!" She shouts, "Booth! Let me go." The arms drop and she sighs relief. Reluctantly turning, she faces her defeat.

His chocolately brown eyes show only regret. "I'd never want to hurt you, Bones. I'm sorry."

The two-word sentiment doesn't cool her fire; they just fan it. "Well you shocked me, Booth. You and that harpy."

His brow furrows and he takes a step towards her, "How dare you, Bones. I don't know exactly what that means, but I thought you had respect for Agent Perotta."

Her chin rises defiantly, "I had respect for her until I saw her humping you like an overgrown rabbit!" She shouts her words as if to throw them from her like the poison they are.

"That's it, Temperance. I have no clue what's gotten into you lately but I don't like it!"

The tears flowed from her eyes like a burst dam. Everything from the last few days crashed around her. The realization of this universal truth. The speculation of the ill return. The seductive tango she had to dance around him, avoiding his gaze for days. Finding him and that agent together. And finally, him calling her Temperance, something she didn't even know meant so much to her delicate consciousness.

His fearsome anger faded, "Oh Bones, I'm so sorry." She turned to run from him, but his arms caught her again.

Like an animal caught in a painful trap, she squirmed and writhed in his arms. "No! Let me go!"

He sighed softly, "No, Bones. Not until you tell me what's bothering you."

She cried and thrashed some more before screaming, "You, Booth! I. Love. You!"

He let go of her in astonishment and she ran full speed into the car. In her hurry to race away from him, she forgot to listen to her song, a simple but vital mistake.

He just stood there, staring after her, regretting the emotionless sex he got from Perotta. It had cost him love.
