After spreading out the picnic blanket, and placing the basket on top of it, Jean Havoc patted the spot in front of him, beckoning his girlfriend, Solaris, to sit down with him.

"What's for lunch?" he asked.

"Sandwiches. And for desert, freshly-baked homemade pie."

Jean's stomach began to grumble. "Sounds great!" he said, "Let's eat!"

Solaris smiled and reached into the basket, only to feel her hand move around in emptiness. "You've got to be kidding me." She grumbled. Then she felt something thin and smooth between her fingers.

Paper.

"What's wrong?" her boyfriend asked, lighting up a cigarette and taking a puff.

Lust pulled out the paper and unfolded it to reveal a note written in what appeared to be pie juice.

"Lust—got hungry

Gluttony."

Her eye twitched and she sighed.

"Looks like my stupid... uh... friend... ate all the food. I'm so sorry, Jean!"

Havoc chuckled. "That's okay, we can just sit and talk."

"Thanks." She smiled, and he took her chin in his palm.

"No need to thank me, I'm the luckiest guy in the world, just for being able to spend the day here with you."

He wiped a tear from the corner of her eye, and kissed her softly on the forehead.

All the while, each was thinking about how magnificent the other was.

Noon turned into evening and evening turned into dusk.

The couple lay on their blanket atop the hill, watching the pink clouds go by.

"What does that one look like to you?" Jean asked.

"A heart." She replied.

"It looks like that to me too."

Solaris took his hand in hers, and they sat there as the sun went down behind the hills, and the moon gradually rose into the sky.

"Look!" Lust pointed at the sky, "The first star!"

"Make a wish." Havoc said.

"I don't need to," she replied, "Since everything I could ever want is right here with me."

"I feel the same way. You make me feel alive, Solaris."

"You have no idea what you do to me," she cooed in that seductive, deep voice of hers, "you've made me feel human for the first time in my life."

She chuckled at the irony.

He smiled. "We are humans, and as such, we crave love. It's only natural."

"I guess you're right." She agreed, and watched as his eyes closed and he fell asleep.

An hour later, she was still watching him sleep, watching his chest heave up and down, and listening to his heartbeat. His heart-that thing that made him human.

Lust sighed and leaned over him, letting her long hair fall onto his face.

"I'm sorry, Jean." She said, "I lied today."

He didn't answer, as expected, but she continued anyway.

"I said that you've made me feel human, but the truth is, you've made me want to be human. More so than I ever have before."

She leaned down and kissed him gently.

"I'm a homunculus, Jean."

His only reply was the continued heaving of his chest.

She didn't know if he heard her or not.

Maybe he was simply fast asleep.

And maybe he just didn't want to hear.
