I saw you when you brought me food,

I told you it was gross and I hated it,

But I lied.

You brought me fish and a beating you got,

But I cherished the bruises as they healed.

You ran as I was healed

And saw death once again.

As I walked to leave you I smelled it.

A blood to innocent to be shed

But it was.

I ran then and saw it you were dead.

"NO" my heart shouted but I kept silent.

I took it then a useless gift or I thought

It healed you

And I could once again hear your laughter

And for once I was happy.
