Title: True Self
Anime: Get Backers
Pairing: BanxGinji
Summary: What did Ban see in Ginji only Ginji knows.

To people he was the Emperor, beloved leader, and friend. He was the political figure that defended the weak and kept order. Death violence was warded off by him and people followed him naturally. They believed in him…an individual that was only a child that gained power from the pain of losing a soul. They believed that he would direct them into the light of life. The new hope.

They follow like sheep guileless and naive in their belief of him. What they did not realize was that even the Raitei did not know where he was going. The leader of the volts just went day by day worried about his people. Worried with sleepless nights that he would one day turn upon those he protected. The power that was granted to him was taking over reducing the true him into ashes. The power the personification of the emperor was turning against him and soon the single spark that made him-Ginji would be eradicated.

The power grew and with it the force of it would destroy the place that he lived in and the people around him.

The fear of his power was great and he was uncertain about the solution. How could he protect those around him if the greatest threat was himself?

Fate of course played its hand into the matter. One day a fight came between the Raitei and the man named Midou Ban. The single individual that was just as powerful as the Raitei—the man that equal, and touch his heart. Midou Ban saw the real him. The child that still was half between innocence and maturity. The heart that bleeds and cries while the façade remained stoic and sturdy. A child that grew up too fast and feared for those that he loved.

Change happened the soften words of, 'If you're so worry then just leave.'

A single sentence that changed everything and it was that day that the Raitei disappeared and only the real Ginji remained.

It was some years later that one of the former volts members asked Ginji softly, "Why did you leave? Why did you go with a man that hurts you and causes you trouble?"

The only answer Ginji could give back to his former follower, but present friend, "Because when Ban-chan looks at me, he only sees me for myself. Ginji. That is all."
