Another Borra oneshot, enjoy!
Bolin would never forget the first time he met Korra. It was just minutes away from the start of the pro-bending match, when he had taken off for a quick pre-game pee. And that's when he found her, wandering about the empty hallways, her blue eyes – oh those eyes – widened in amazement. It was those eyes that drew him in, they resembled the color of the sea and sky all at once, and they were always so full of life, matching perfectly with Korra's personality. Bolin had approached, hesitantly at first, with nothing on his mind but the brown haired, blue eyed girl in front of him. And to his amazement, she had latched on quickly, fawning over Bolin's profession as a pro-bender and laughing nonstop at his petty attempts at a joke.
Throughout the match, Bolin's mind could not stop thinking about the blue eyed beauty. And whether it was fate, destiny, or just sheer luck, Korra had stuck around, replacing Hasook as the team's waterbender. Mako had protested endlessly about the hasty decision, ranting about how she wasn't trained and was nothing more than an inexperienced bender, but Bolin persisted, saying that Korra was the extra oomph they needed to get to the finals. Over time, Mako's voiced disapproval feigned to snide, under the breath remarks and contemptuous glares.
Truthfully, Bolin was relieved that Korra hadn't fallen for his brother like all the others. In fact, she probably complained about Mako more than Mako complained about her. But no matter what time of day it was, she always had something to rant about, whether it was Mako's attitude, Tenzin's strict training regime, or how the city just couldn't get the authenticity of water tribe cuisine just right.
At first, Bolin had suppressed his growing affections towards Korra (what girl would ever like a guy like him?), but as time passed and Korra spent more of her time with the brothers (thank Agni Hasook was such a failure), the earthbender knew that he couldn't fight it anymore. So he decided to act on it: he asked her out.
Bolin excitedly told Mako about his plans, only to be shot down with a lecture regarding how one should never date his/her own teammate. But Bolin ignored Mako's warnings, writing him off as feeling secretly bitter that he had finally found a girl, and not him.
His heart pumped nervously in his chest when he approached Korra, his mind beginning to wander as he admired Korra's lithe muscles. But he cleared his throat, and asked her, a delighted gasp escaping his lips when she finally agreed.
The pair spent the entire evening, seemingly joined at the hip, Korra laughing at Bolin's jokes and forcing noodles out of the earthbender's nose through her Tahno impersonations. His eyes never left hers for the entire night, and he could feel his fondness for her grow into something more than he ever would have expected.
That was why, when Bolin rolled into bed that night, he made the decision to make Korra his girlfriend. That was why, on the day of the tournament, he bought a bright bouquet of pink flowers for her, to show how much he cared for her. And that was why, when Bolin caught Mako – his own brother – and Korra kissing that same fateful night, his heart shattered into a million pieces.
