"Do you remember me, yo?"
"You're trembling," the man beside Tifa said, a hand touching her shoulder. Tifa gave a smile at Axel's concern.
"It's cold..." Axel moved closer at that and soon Tifa felt a jacket being placed around her shoulders. They were walking in one of the restored areas of Radiant Garden, the place a reminder of just how the world had gotten its name. Birds were singing their songs to the wind and the sun was out but the air was still cold, a leftover from winter.
"Are you sure it's just the cold, Teef?" Axel asked. Tifa looked into his eyes then and shook her head.
"You have to see through everything, don't you?"
"What can I say, it's a talent, got it-
"memorized?" Tifa finished for him, laughing at his disappointed expression. She kissed him on the cheek in apology and laid her head on his shoulder.
"I've been having this weird dream over and over lately. I'm walking through a burning house and someone's calling for help. Then I see this man with scars on his face and he looks at me as if I should know him and he reaches out to me, then I wake up. What could it mean?" She looked up at Axel as she finished talking, noticing his pensive expression.
"Maybe I should be jealous, you dreaming about other men, hmm?" Tifa rolled her eyes at that remark.
"If it's any consolation, he does look like you," Tifa replied.
"Well dreams can mean a bunch of different things, maybe it's the ghost of Christmas Past, maybe you'll meet a handsome stranger who I would then have to burn alive, or maybe it's a warning not to eat the ninja's cooking." He paused here to take a breath before continuing. "Whatever meaning is behind it, you're the only one who can decide what you want to do about it." Silence lay between them as Tifa pondered over what he had just said.
"I think I know what I want," she said after some time had passed.
"And what's that?" Axel asked, cocking his head to the side. She pressed her lips against his then in a deep kiss, drinking in his warmth. Once they broke apart, Tifa had a wide smile on her face while Axel just stared at her with glazed eyes.
"You of course. Whatever dreams I have I know you'll be there when I wake up." Axel shook himself out of his stupor then and wrapped an arm around her shoulder.
"Well someone has to watch out for you," he joked. Tifa puffed out her cheeks at that comment but Axel just kissed her on the cheek, humming a song.
"That song...I've heard it somewhere before...it makes me feel...warm..." Tifa's cheeks reddened after this murmured remark and waited for Axel's teasing but instead he looked deep into her eyes.
"Maybe it's because you have someone living inside of you and they liked this music before becoming a part of you..."
"That's an odd way of looking at things," Tifa commented. Axel gave a laugh and nodded his head.
"Yeah but when I'm with you some part of me feels like I've come back to you even though we never parted, if that makes any sense." Before Tifa could reply to this declaration her stomach growled loudly. Axel looked puzzled at the loud noise but quickly figured out what it was.
"Hungry are we?" Then an even louder gurgle roared from his stomach. Tifa laughed and took his hand.
"C'mon, let's go to Cid's and pray Yuffie isn't cooking." As he followed after her, he wondered why he felt deja vu as they touched but quickly shook the thought out of his head. He needed to pay more attention to the moment; to Tifa and the relationship they now had. Answers could come later or not at all, as long as Axel had her he couldn't care about anything else.
Yeah, I remember you...
