Telling Charlie
Bella Swan had no idea how to tell her father, Charlie that she was getting married. Directly out of High School. To Edward Cullen no less. She wasn't sure she could even explain it to him. Around her ring finger, on her left hand was a ring. Something that was now making her comforted. At first she had balked the idea of marrying Edward but now she was a bit more comfortable with the idea. She was not, and probably never would be comfortable with the idea of telling her father that Edward would soon be his son-in-law that he would probably never see again. Ever. Or her for that matter. Or any of the Cullen's at all. Bella did know, and she was sure Alice knew too, that she was going back to see Charlie once before he died and Renee too. She had no other choice, no other option. Well, she did have an option but she wanted that.
As soon as she walked into the house she noticed that Charlie was watching another game. She sighed in relief, and headed into the kitchen chickening out. Again. She knew that she would tell him that night, she couldn't wait any longer otherwise the invitation would get there before she got around to telling him and Charlie would be very very angry. Very angry was an understatement. As soon as she finished cooking, as was one of her jobs Bella took a few rapid breaths before entering where Charlie sat.
"Dad," she said it softly, as though not to startle him. Noticing how weak her voice sounded Bella cleared her throat. Not that Charlie couldn't' hear her, but she didn't like the nervous pitch to it. She was sure of this, of telling him. She wrung her hands behind her so that he didn't see the ring just yet.
"Yeah Bell?" he asked looking at her. He knew that something would be up because she rarely bothered him during his major games. She smiled slightly at him and that really worried him, "Everything okay?"
"Yes. Everything's wonderful. I just wanted to tell you something important and good," she had seen a slight flicker in his eyes and wanted to kill any suspicions immediately. When he looked at her pointedly she held her hand out. Her left hand. Her now ring holding hand and told him, "Edward proposed and I accepted,"
Silence. Bella closed her eyes waiting for a moment. Nothing happened. She opened her eyes and saw that Charlie was watching her carefully. She gave a silent wince as she knew he was either going to explode or be very embarrassing. Probably both with her luck. She waited a bit more, because she didn't want to say anything and make him explode or embarrass them. Bella hoped this would go smoothly otherwise she would be in a very bad situation which was more ore less likely going to happen. It was after all her father who hadn't exactly approved of Edward, no more then he disapproved either.
"Bella...Did you think about this?" he asked carefully.
"Yes. I thought of the pros, the con's, you and mom, everything. I went through it all and I wanted it. I still want it," she added swiftly, "It really is...He really is...my life," she decided on. Charlie nodded waiting a moment and then took a few breaths.
"Well then. Congratulations Bell," he smiled and hugged her tightly, "I really am happy for you," he added. Bella relaxed immediately glad the way Charlie was taking it and then she spoke again.
"The wedding invitation is in the mail...Alice is...helping me plan my wedding," Charlie nodded not sure what else to say to her. Bella smiled at him and then waved towards the kitchen, "Foods ready," and walked away sure of herself now. For the first time in what felt like awhile. She liked that.
A/N: Okay. It's my first Twilight attempt, and I'm not sure it's that good but the idea struck me after Eclipse. I rather liked it for all I'm not wonderful at writing anything for Twilight and the other books.
