Guardian Angel

"I'm leaving Matt."

I don't know what it was, but something told me that he was serious.

"… Why?"

He stared at me.

"Because L didn't chose. He was supposed to, but didn't so now it's up to us to chose for him."

"So, you're just going to leave?"

"Yes."

Maybe he didn't hear me. Maybe he didn't understand. Maybe he was serious.

"Mello, are you just going to leave me?"

Silence. Maybe, I had gotten to him. But then he looked me in my eyes and said:

"Yeah, Matt. I'm leaving you too."

And then continued packing, like it was nothing. Like I was nothing. I think that's what hurt the most.

"Take me with you then."

"Matt, I can't, it's dangerous."

"Please, Mello? I'll be good, Mels, I promise."

I felt five again, when dad was leaving and I was begging him to stay. I promised to be a good boy, but in the end, he left. And he never came back.

"Matt, I'll be back, I promise."

"No, you won't. You'll find someone else. A different friend. A different Matt."

Mello closed his suitcase and towards me.

"Sorry."

And just like that, he left. No goodbye. No clue to where he was going. Just an apology. I lifted my goggles up from my eyes and let the tears fall. It was time to face the truth.

Mello was gone.

AN- Well, this is it. I don't know if I should leave this a one-shot or continue it as a full story, so if you want more tell me. I was listening to the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus while writing this. You know that song Guardian Angel? Well, I never knew how sad that song really was until I wrote this. Please review. – kikyo1027
