Title: Shouldn't Be Having This Conversation

Summary: For too many years, K has left Tohma to his own devices. It's Tohma's fault.

"We shouldn't be having this conversation."

K rubbed the bridge of his nose and let out the kind of frustrated sigh he'd heard from Tohma so many times. This was more difficult than it should be. And it was such a nice day. There was the slightest chill as a breeze picked up, but the sun was warm. K's kind of afternoon, not Tohma's.

Tohma was across from him, dead silent. He still had it, even after all these years. It was infuriating. K was getting too old for this.

"They're in love. It's healthy. If you'd just let him go, you wouldn't have lost him. And you and I could have at least…"

Tohma had never wanted to hear what he and K could have done.

'It's hardly your business, K-san.' How many times had K heard that? 'It's hardly your business.'

It's been my business all along, K thought. "Damn it, Seguchi- an opening, that's all. I could have helped you." Kept you from making all the enemies you made trying to protect one damn man who doesn't love you. Even now – or perhaps now more than ever - K knew better than to say out loud everything that crossed his mind. He reminded himself that this wasn't the time or place to get angry, especially if Tohma wasn't going to cooperate.

"It was bound to catch up with you sooner or later." K left it at that and wiped the dirt off his hands as he stood up. Tohma didn't care for flowers, but it was a little late for that now. They all had flowers. For the first time, Tohma was one of many.

"The music was great, Tohma. But they were at the funeral together." K heard his own voice get bitter, and he felt a solitary tear threaten behind the corner of his eye. "Is that what you wanted? They stood in front of every employee and associate you ever knew and held hands while you were lowered into the dirt." His words broke and K knelt back down, picked up another clump of soil and ground it between his fingers.

He had to go home soon- it was getting colder.

When had the shadows gotten so long?

The end.

A/N: I know, I know, not my usual sickening sap… and yet somehow equally as plot-less. I'm sure some of my feel-good readers might be disappointed, but all I can say is that there's more uplifting stuff on the way. As always, review at will.
