I recently left home and I'm really struggling to cope with it - I started thinking that Hermione must have struggled too, well I guess all first-years would have struggled especially muggle-borns. Anyway, please read and review?
No I am not J.K Rowling so unfortunately the characters aren't mine. I just play around a bit :)
It was her first night at Hogwarts. The school was spectacular. The ghosts were fascinating. The feast was delicious and she couldn't wait for lessons to begin tomorrow.
But it wasn't home. Her parents weren't here. She couldn't even see them until Christmas; she could write to them but it wasn't the same. She wouldn't sleep in her bed until Christmas; this was technically her bed now but it didn't feel right. She wouldn't breathe in the warm air that reminded her of home; yes, air is air and is no different, but it sure felt different here.
She was only eleven – how could she be living away from her parents!?
She missed her mum's voice, the way she would kiss her sweetly and wish her a good night's sleep. She missed her dad's booming laughter, the way he would hug her tightly to him and kiss the top of her head. It was only her first night at this new school and already she wanted nothing more than to go home – to pretend that she had never left, that she wasn't any different to her parents, that this was all just a strange dream.
She crawled under the cold, uninviting duvet, (ok, so maybe it was actually quite toasty and the mattress was cushion soft, but it's not the her mattress). She pulled her raggedy old teddy towards her, nuzzling her face into its head and clutching its paw.
Maybe if she closed her eyes, sleep would capture her and she would get some brief reprieve from this ache in her chest.
It didn't matter that everyone had told her that she would settle in eventually; it didn't matter that they had said she would make friends; it didn't even matter that she would be learning so much about herself and this strange new world she inhabited. They didn't know did they?
She needed her mum and her dad – she needed home.
