A Starry Night

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Naruto.

It was late at night and the stars looked more beautiful during this time than any other time. Sparkling and shining near the moon in a naked, cloudless navy sky, it was hard to ignore.

Naruto was walking home – alone – that same time. Although only nine years old, walking home alone in the middle of the night was not on the boy's list of fears. He enjoyed it, in fact. The cool summer breeze, the crickets singing and the leaves dancing – the perfect setting to end a perfect day.

As he walked on, he crossed the luscious park that was across from his apartment. It wasn't anything big; a small grass field for parents to bring their kids to enjoy an afternoon picnic or for couples to go and lay back and watch the stars shine. There were also some benches scattered about, but almost everyone preferred to sit on the grass.

Walking on the stoned path in the middle of the grassy plain, his eye caught the sight of a silhouette sitting in the middle of the field, all by itself. Curious, he approached the figure and realized it was a small girl. She was sitting on the grass, her knees brought up to her chest while her arms hugged them. Her head was held up, staring at the sky.

He recognized her immediately and chirped: "Hinata-chan!"

The shy girl quickly spun around at the call of her name and her face's color matched the one of a tomato, "N-Naruto-kun…" She was not prepared to see him here, so she swallowed hard as she watched her crush walk towards her.

The little blond boy reached her and flashed her a large, toothy grin, "Watcha doin' out here?"

The small Hyuuga heiress fiddled with her fingers and stuttered, "I-I always come out h-here at this time."

Naruto plopped down next to her and crossed his legs while tilting his head, "Why? It's so late and dark and stuff. Aren't you scared?"

Trying hard not to faint at the fact that he was sitting right next to her, Hinata smiled. She resumed her position of looking at the sky and whispered, "The stars … they look really pretty at this t-time."

Naruto, confused somewhat, looked up too. The billions of stars scattered all around the sky, winking down at the two children caught his attention automatically. The demon vessel inwardly gasped at the sight. Never had he took the time to look up at the sky to see such a sight. It was mesmerizing and beautiful; he couldn't believe something so beautiful existed in such a backwards world.

Hinata was so engulfed with the view that she didn't notice a pair of blue eyes staring at her. When she did, she almost fainted when her eyes were locked with Naruto's. She tried her best not to stutter when she spoke, but to no avail.

"N-Naruto-kun… why a-aren't you looking at the s-stars?" She asked.

Naruto smiled widely, "Because!" He moved his face closer to her's as he looked deeper into the Hyuuga's eyes and said:

"I am looking at the stars, silly! But I realized that they look even more beautiful reflected off your eyes."
