Chapter 1
The day everyone dreaded was near. The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Hunger Games were approaching and as everyone in the school knew the house with the lowest points would have to send an extra set of tributes. As with every year Gryffindor had a late start with Snape deducting points at every turn. This was the morning tributes would be announced and prepared for the games.
Harry was walking to breakfast when he heard a quiet sobbing from the library. When he turned the corner he discovered Colin Creevey crying. He shuffled awkwardly before deciding to approach.
"Uh, hey Colin," Harry said, "You okay? Do you need anything?"
Colin looked up at him with shock, "How can you be so calm with the games approaching? Aren't you scared? S'pose not with the reputation you haveā¦"
Harry felt an embarrassed flush rise in his cheeks, " I'm just as terrified as everyone, but hey, you're in a lower year so you have less entries. You shouldn't worry."
"But Gryffindor has barely any points. I don't think we're gonna have any luck gettin' more before the games." More tears threatened to spill down Colin's cheeks.
"You've got nothing to worry about Colin. There's a slim chance it'll be you." Harry tried to look confident as he swallowed the lump of fear forming in his throat. It was true, sending two sets of tributes did make it feel like it was A LOT more likely for one of them to be chosen. "How about you come sit with me at breakfast? We can stay together for when they announce the tributes."
"That'd be great." Colin wiped his nose on his sleeve and took the hand Harry offered to pull him up with.
While making their way to the Great Hall, a dreary silence settled everywhere and on everyone. Everyone that is, except Ron Weasley. Ron was his usual loud self and the only one still capable of eating on such a day. The food prepared was specifically for this occasion. Foods that were only served before the Hunger Games covered the tables. Dumbledore approached the podium at the front of the Great Hall and cleared his throat as the owl spread its wings.
"Today, as you all know, is the announcement of the Hunger Games tributes." He announced in a darkening tone. "But first as everyone knows we must reconcile the reasons for such a heartless and bitter game allowed to consume the lives of our students." Ron, who still managed to eat, until Hermione told him to shut it, was the only sound in the otherwise awkward silence. "Long ago at the building of our great school the four Founders: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin, argued among which wizards would be welcome. Slytherin took only the pure bloods, Ravenclaw the wise, Gryffindor the brave, and Hufflepuff all the rest. These four engaged in a battle that only came to settle as a challenge of whose wizards could fair the greatest at any challenge. Thus the hunger games were formed. Things games were named as such for the rule that no food is allowed to be taken into the games."
Ron swallowed, "Well, blimey I'm sure now you all understand why I'm eatin' like I am." Hermione glared to shut him up lest a professor hear and take even more points from Gryffindor. Ron could be such trouble at times.
"And now as it is time to announce this years tributes may we please have the tributes from years past stand up: Minerva McGonagall, Pomona Sprout, Severus Snape, and Gilderoy Lockhart," A collective groan went around the Ravenclaw table as everyone knew Lockhart had only survived by cowering in a tree for days while the others fought it out. It was only luck that other remaining opponents managed to kill each other and left him the only living person left. "And now to draw the tributes."
Authors Note please, leave feedback for this. I've never written before and I'm really nervous.
