Jane Britt was a woman, who was in thirty-years-old and had blonde hair. After graduating from Gotham University, she became a scientist's assistant, for a few years. Although she was cool with being an assistant, as time went on, she wanted a bigger type of job. She wanted to be a professor, not just an assistant. For a brief time, she was employed by Professor Hugo Strange, but after learning about Hugo Strange's shady actions, she quit that job.

Jane was an optimistic person, someone who tried to believe in the best of humanity. Things were never that easy for her. Although her parents loved her, they didn't believe she'd become a scientist. She was used to family members and friends not believing in her, so she chose to believe in herself. She kept holding on to hope, which led to her eventually getting a job, as a professor.

Jane got employed by Bruce Wayne, to be one of Wayne Industries' professors. Jane was surprised to get such a high-ranking and respectable job, because most places didn't give her a fair chance. Thankfully, Bruce Wayne was an open-minded, kind person, who thought that Jane had a lot of potential.

After passing her job interview and getting the announcement of her new job, Jane wondered if she should tell her parents about it. Jane's parents weren't the most optimistic or polite type of people, so Jane wasn't thrilled to tell them the good news. However, since she still loved and respected her parents, she decided to give them a call, after she got home. Jane said, "Hi Mom. Hi Dad."

Jane's mom replied, "Greetings, Jane. What's going on?"

Jane said, "I got a new job and I think you're going to like what it is."

Jane's dad sighed and asked, "What is it?"

Jane proudly said, "I got employed by Bruce Wayne, to be a professor."

Jane's parents wanted to be happy for her, but they didn't think she could handle such a high-stakes job. Jane's mom had a concerned tone in her voice, while saying, "Jane, we're impressed by your success, we really are. However, we don't think you should take this job."

Jane raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why not?"

Jane's dad explained, "Being a professor is a very dangerous job. You live in Gotham City, the world's most dangerous town. Do you know how many scientists have been turned into freakish monsters?"

Jane replied, "Come on, a few accidents doesn't change how wonderful being a professor will be. It's a very interesting and important job. Plus, I'll be working for Bruce Wayne, one of Gotham's most famous citizens."

Jane's mom responded, "Working for Bruce Wayne is one of the biggest mistakes, that a citizen of Gotham could ever make."

Jane looked confused, while asking, "Why do you think that?"

Jane's mom said, "Bruce Wayne is Gotham's main playboy. He dates thirty-nine girls per year. If you're going to be working at his company, he'll probably ask you out, every five minutes."

Jane rolled her eyes and replied, "I know Bruce Wayne's no superhero or anything like that, but he seems like a good, respectable person."

Jane's dad shook his head and responded, "I've stared at garbage, that has more charm than Bruce Wayne."

A week later, it was Jane's first day, at being one of Wayne Industries' employees. She walked into the building, while having a hopeful smile on her face. She got inside the building and waved to her new co-workers.

Bruce Wayne and Lucius Fox walked up to her. Lucius nudged Bruce and whispered, "Your tie's not straightened."

Bruce was aware of his tie not being not being on correctly. He pretended to make mistakes, in order to keep people from knowing he was a brilliant detective. He pretended to straighten the tie, but he was purposely fiddling around with it and failing to get it on.

Jane had an amused look on her face, while asking, "Do you need some help with that?"

Bruce chuckled and said, "You could say that."

Jane replied, "Allow me to help you." She started straightening Bruce's tie.

In order to make himself look less credible than he actually was, Bruce flung the tie out the window, while pretending like it was an accident. He said, "Oh my, talk about about a dumb mistake. I'm sorry, Professor Jane Britt. I'm not giving the respectable first impression, that I should be."

Jane replied, "It's quite alright, Mr. Wayne. You were just being yourself." That wasn't true, but Bruce didn't comment on that. Jane said, "I must admit, that I'm flattered to be called a professor. I've never really been called."

Bruce responded, "You deserve to be called that. You're a very smart and clever scientist. I think you're going to have a great and groundbreaking career, at Wayne Industries." Bruce looked at Lucius and asked, "Can you show Professor Britt around? I need to call Alfred and have him get me a new tie."

Lucius replied, "Very well then." He looked at Jane and said, "Please follow me."

Jane replied, "Okay, Mr. Fox."

Lucius whispered to Jane, "I'm sorry about Mr. Wayne's behavior. Deep down, he's a very smart and reliable young-man. However, he often acts a little silly."

Jane replied, "It's okay. If anything, I think Bruce is quite a big help, sort of like a knight."

Meanwhile, Professor Achilles Milo was walking outside. He slipped over Bruce Wayne's tie and fell to the ground. Detective Harvey Bullock saw what happened, so he took a selfie with him. Professor Milo angrily pushed Detective Bullock, while saying, "Grow up, you lousy excuse for a cop." He scowled, while heading into Wayne Industries.

Professor Milo started walking to his lab. Bruce saw him and noticed how grumpy he was, so he asked, "Are you okay?"

Professor Milo turned around and said, "A clumsy idiot dropped their tie on the ground, which made me fall."

Bruce had a guilty look on his face, while saying, "I'm the one, who accidentally dropped the tie."

Professor Milo glared at Bruce and asked, "What's wrong with you, Mr. Wayne? You're supposed to be running this company, with dignity and respect. Instead of doing that, you act like a fun loving-goofball, who's lacking in good judgement and common sense." Milo folded his arms and said, "If you want me to work to the best of my abilities, I expect you to act like a proper and mature boss."

Professor Milo was one of Bruce's most profitable and well-respected professors, so he wanted to get on his good side. He had a friendly smile on his face, while saying, "You know what, Milo? I'm going to approve the experiment, that you suggested to me, a few weeks ago."

Professor Milo started getting excited, while asking, "Are you talking about the experiment, involving freeze experiments on animals?"

Bruce answered, "That's the one. I must admit, that I used to think this plan was a little suspicious and might harm innocent animals. However, you're one of our best professors, so I'm putting my trust in you."

Professor Milo replied, "That's a very wise choice, Mr. Wayne. I assure you, that no lifeforms are going to get hurt. I respect animals, about as much as I respect humans."

Bruce responded, "Me too." He and Milo shook hands.

Professor Milo said, "This is a pleasant surprise. I'm going to be making lots of progress, with these experiments."

Bruce remembered he had something else, to tell to Professor Milo. Because of that, he walked closer to him and stopped him from walking away. He replied, "By the way, I have a second piece of news."

Professor Milo raised an eyebrow and asked, "What is it?"

Bruce said, "You're going to be working with the professor, that just started working here."

Professor Milo asked, "Are you talking about an assistant?"

Bruce said, "No, I'm talking about a partner. You're going to be working with Professor Jane Britt."

Professor Milo started getting a little nervous, while saying, "I'm not sure, that this is one of your better ideas. I work alone. My projects are the types of things, that nobody else could understand."

Bruce replied, "Believe me, I've felt like that. However, you have nothing to worry about. Professor Britt is a brilliant woman. I'm sure she'll figure out, how to be a big help to your experiments. Best of luck, Professor Milo." Professor Milo continued scowling, while heading to his lab.

After Bruce finished talking to Milo, he was planning on going to the lobby and wait for Alfred to give him a new tie. However, Lucius Fox walked to him. Bruce turned around and said, "Hi Mr. Fox. How did the tour go?"

Lucius replied, "I showed Jane around. She seems to already be a fan of this place."

Bruce responded, "That's good news."

Lucius replied, "That's for sure. She seems very optimistic and happy. It's rare to find another professor around here, who's in a good mood."

Bruce responded, "Speaking of happy professors, I found a way to lift Professor Milo's spirits."

Lucius was used to Milo being Wayne Industries' grumpiest and most unfriendly professor, so he had a surprised look on his face. He asked, "How did you accomplish that?"

Bruce answered, "I approved of the experiments, that he proposed to us."

Lucius sighed and asked, "You're talking about the freezing experiments?" Bruce nodded. Lucius put his hand over his face, while saying, "Listen, I know you're the boss and all, but I don't think you made a good decision."

Bruce asked, "Why not?"

Lucius said, "Freezing animals? Putting poor, innocent creatures in painfully cold temperatures? Am I the only one, who thinks that's messed up?"

Bruce replied, "I used to feel that way, but Professor Milo is one of our most reliable and most responsible professors. Besides, Professor Britt will be keeping an eye on him."

Professor Milo walked into his lab and saw Jane Britt. Jane had a pleasant smile on her face, while saying, "Greetings, Professor Milo. I'm Professor Jane Britt. This is my first time being a professor, rather than just an assistant. Because of that, I don't know if I'll do the best job, but I'm going to try my best."

Professor Milo angrily growled and said, "Whatever, just don't cause me any trouble and don't do anything dumb."

Jane noticed that Milo wasn't exactly a friendly guy, but she was glad to be meeting him. She said, "It's an honor, to be working with you. I know about your work."

Professor Milo had a flattered look on his face, while asking, "You have?"

Jane nodded and said, "I sure have. Your experiments are top-notch. Your recently-discovered cure, that was for a rare illness, saved a lot of peoples' lives. You must be proud."

Professor Milo replied, "Indeed I am. However, saving some measly lives is nothing, compared to my latest experiments."

Jane asked, "What are you working about?"

Professor Milo stubbornly answered, "I can't give you any details."

Jane replied, "Come on, Professor Milo. I'm your new partner. How am I supposed to be helpful, if I don't know what you're doing?"

Professor Milo didn't want Jane to know about the experiments, but if he didn't tell her anything, he figured his superiors would throw a fit. He pretended to be nicer than he actually was, to disguise his true intentions. He smiled, while saying, "You know what? You do deserve to know about my project. You are my new partner and from what I've heard, you're a brilliant professor."

Jane replied, "Thank you. I'm incredibly honored and flattered, to hear that, especially from someone of your high-ranking." She paused and said, "So, what are your experiments about?"

Professor Milo took away a bunch of curtains and boxes, which were covering up the place, where his experiments were taking place. He pointed to a freezer, that was smaller than freezer sold in stores.

Jane said, "Wow, that's the smallest freezer I've ever seen. What's inside of it?"

Professor Milo replied, "Allow me to show you." He opened the freezer and pulled out a couple of mice.

Jane looked confused, while asking, "You put mice in the freezer?"

Professor Milo said, "I sure did. You see, I've created a formula, which can make animals survive under any temperature." He pointed to the mice who managed to survive, despite spending hours in the freezer.

Jane replied, "This is a truly impressive breakthrough, Professor Milo. Have you tried this on other animals?"

Professor Milo responded, "Bruce Wayne just approved of me doing this, so I haven't had time to test it on other animals." He handed her a list of animals and said, "Get those animals from the zoo. We're going to be making a lot of breakthroughs, in the days to come."

Jane replied, "If you say so."

Over the next few days, Jane picked-up several animals, which Professor Milo experimented on. The animals included gorillas, horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, crocodiles, and fish. During that time, Jane tried very hard, to be a helpful and responsible professor. She believed in Professor Milo, who acted nice around her, to trick her.

On the last day of the week, Jane looked at Milo and said, "This has been an incredible first week. I've got to be a part of things, that I never thought I'd accomplish. My parents didn't even think I could be a professor. At the risk of sounding bold, I think I proved them wrong."

Professor Milo replied, "You've done a great job. You ought to be proud of yourself." He sighed and said, "However, I'm not exactly proud of myself."

Jane had a concerned look on her face, while asking, "What's wrong?"

Professor Milo said, "You see, I've experimented on almost every kind of animal I've wanted to. However, there's one type of animal, that seems impossible, to find a volunteer for."

Jane asked, "What type of animal is it?"

Professor Milo answered, "Human." He paused and said, "I need to test this formula on humans. If the experiment turns out a success, I can save anybody, who's ever suffered too much freezing."

Jane said, "It's a very noteworthy idea, but how are you going to find someone, who'll agree to that?"

Professor Milo put his hand on his chin, while saying, "I think I've figured out a solution, to that. I hope this isn't asking too much, but how about you try it out?"

Jane started getting a little nervous, while saying, "You want me to go into a freezer?"

Professor Milo casually answered, "More or less. Don't worry, Professor Britt. You're guaranteed, to come out safely. If you trust me and if you want to make a difference in the world, this is your big chance."

Jane thought about the situation. Although it seemed scary, Jane was eager to show her potential and prove her parents wrong. She said, "Alright then." Milo had an excited look on his life.

Jane went into Milo's human-sized freezer. The freezer had a control panel, which Milo was using. He pressed a button, which made Jane sleep, until the experimenting was over.

Five hours later, Milo turned off the control panel and opened the fridge. He was planning on defrosting Jane, but he looked at her and saw that his experiment had transformed her. Jane's skin turned ice-blue. Milo felt intimidated by her, even though she was still frozen.

A few minutes later, Jane woke up. She looked at her new appearance and was horrified by it. Although her body was affected by the experiment, her mind suffered the most. Her optimism and happiness was gone. It was replaced with anger and a desire for revenge. She was no longer Jane Britt. She had become Ms. Freeze. Ms. Freeze angrily stared at Milo and said, "You ruined my life. You told me I'd be perfectly safe, but that's not what happened."

Professor Milo nervously replied, "I didn't know the experiment would turn you into a monster."

Ms. Freeze responded, "While that may be true, that doesn't change how bad you really are." She started freezing Milo's other experiments and smashing them apart. She grabbed Milo and said, "As Jane Britt, I was optimistic, which was dumb of me. You never had any desire to help others, did you? You just wanted to do your sick, dangerous experiments."

Professor Milo replied, "Wow, you may of become a monster, but you finally got a brain."

Ms. Freeze flung Milo to the ground and said, "You took away everything that mattered to me. You ruined my health, my appearance, my job, and most of all, my potential."

Professor Milo replied, "I'm Wayne Industries' smartest professor. You're a freakish monster."

Bruce Wayne had heard the intense sounds, that came from the lab. Because of that, he got on his Batman costume and burst into the lab. He looked around and saw Ms. Freeze. Batman asked, "What is that creature?"

Ms. Freeze said, "I used to be Jane Britt, but Professor Milo turned me into Ms. Freeze."

Batman was devastated to learn, that Jane had been turned into a monster. He looked sorry for her, while saying, "Jane, I know this is a terrifying situation to be in, but I believe I can help you. It'll certainly take time, but if you stay optimistic, things will work out."

Ms. Freeze angrily asked, "You think optimism will help me? Believing, in overly-ambitious hope, is what led to my downfall." She tried to freeze Professor Milo, but Batman got him out of the way. Ms. Freeze started getting annoyed, while saying, "Scram, you stupid detective. Your help is not wanted and appreciated." She started freezing random objects, across the lab.

Professor Milo looked at Batman and said, "That creature needs to be stopped. Don't you have something, in your utility-belt, that can take care of this thing?"

Batman looked around his belt and replied, "I don't really see anything, that would defeat an ice-themed villain."

Professor Milo responded, "Then I'll put an end, to that menace." He grabbed a firearm, out of his supply area, and started setting Ms. Freeze on fire.

Batman screamed, "What is wrong with you?!"

Professor Milo said, "I'm saving our lives. I'm expecting a proper thank you, after this is all over." Batman used his grappling-hook, to get the firearm away from Milo. He turned it off and used a fire extinguisher on Ms. Freeze.

Ms. Freeze said, "It doesn't matter if I die, because Jane Britt is long-gone. I'm Ms. Freeze and I doubt I'll ever become anything else." She passed out.

Professor Milo smirked and said, "I'll make a grave out of ice cubes, for this female Frosty."

Batman replied, "Milo, this room has a cold-hearted monster and it's not Jane. It's you." Batman had the police arrest Milo, while taking Ms. Freeze to one of his experiment rooms.

The next day, Bruce checked on Ms. Freeze, who was being kept in a cold-temperature room, to restore her health. Alfred Pennyworth, with a couple of winter jackets on. He looked at Bruce and asked, "How is Jane doing?"

Bruce said, "The doctor did a test on her. She's breathing, so she's going to live."

Alfred seemed concerned, while asking, "Is she going to be okay?"

Bruce said, "I'm not sure. However, I believe in optimism. If I didn't believe things could get better, I wouldn't of become the Batman. While I don't know what the future holds for Jane Britt, I know that I believed in her and I always will."
