Newborn
I saw her lay there on the floor,
a silent wish for something more.
She screamed, she fought, she even cried,
but no hope remained, no matter what she tried.
She banged her fists against the cold, hard ground,
getting no comfort from the pain she found.
Her bleeding fists, full of gravel and dirt,
were nothing compared to her emotional hurt.
She pulled up her knees and held them tight,
hoping to melt away into the frigid night.
She was the prey of another like me,
he wanted her blood; he would not let her be.
My desire to protect her, enraged his thirst,
but if he wanted her, he would need to get through me first.
This hunter wouldn't stop, untill he got his prize,
an innocent girl's sorrowful demise.
If I could shed tears, I would shed them for her,
for this poor young girl who was once so pure.
But shedding those tears would not set her free,
saving her would be up to me.
So I grabbed the bars of her imprisoning cage,
and forced them apart with my built up rage.
I easily slipped through the newly made space,
and my feet silently touched the ground of that evil place.
I approached her slowly but she did not hear,
I realised her injuries were worse than they appeared.
She should be dead but her heart was tough,
I knew right then, I had had enough.
So I lifted her up, and held her near,
I whispered to her: "There's nothing to fear."
The shadow of the hunter was not far away,
he would not give up easily on his desired prey.
Barely alive, I held her to me,
and out of that place we both did flee.
The sadistic creature followed, now closer than before,
anger and hate flowed deep within his core.
I ran faster than any human could go,
and took her to a place no human would know.
He was catching up, he was so close,
time for another adrenaline dose.
I pushed my legs harder, desperate to get away,
only to hold this monster at bay.
Time was up, I had to act fast.
her immortality was coming at last.
I sunk my teeth into her tender flesh,
but pulled away quickly when her blood ran fresh.
The hunter arrived and realised what I'd done,
his anger overwhelmed me; I'd just ruined his fun.
The hunter's next mission was my death,
he would haunt me untill my very last breath.
The girl was safe; I couldn't help but smile,
even though it only lasted for a little while.
The hunt began; I was the new prey,
I wished so desperately that I could stay.
I wanted to see her, but the hunter would bring her pain,
so I ran, never to see my sweet vampire again...
