Nevermore
The air down here is soo stale and stuffy. Breathing is hard, all the while artifical lights glare in your eyes. I guess that's just post-war, bomb shelter life for you.
Today is the day that we finaly get out of this whole. As the guards open the doors to the outside world and as I blink the sunlight from my eyes, I think of all the people I've lost.
Fang, who got shot by a bullet with my name on it.
Angel, who was led astray by the empty promises of a mad scientist. She was above ground when they dropped the bombs.
Nudge and Gazzy held my hands as if I was a life boat in an endless sea of dread. We walked into the bright sunlight of the ruins of a metropolis that was called New York. Dylan held my soldiers expecting me to cry.
I looked to my right where the Empire State Building use to stand, a hollowed out shell now. Then behind me where all the mutants and humans who got underground in time were looking around in dismay and grief. The old Max would have started balling like a baby, but I now knew that I was the leader of the fallen. I had to show strength to prove that no matter how much they wanted to destroy us, we survived. We would always survive.
This was my new flock, my family.
"WE survived, WE didn't die", I began to shout at the crowd of listless people," I propose that we take this attempted genocide and make a better place for us to live in. Who's with me?"
Then I saw the reason I was always a leader, these people looked at me with hope and cheered.
We will survive, we will always survive.
